American Idol 4/28/09 Rat Pack Theme Song List Spoilers? Idol Top 4 Rock Theme Spoiler

UPDATE BELOW!!! The American Idol Rat Pack theme list of songs spoiler rumors from EW may or may not be true, but it’s sure fun to speculate on American Idol spoilers anyway. One thing that’s interesting from this supposed spoiler is the lack of two songs for each of the Top 5 to sing this week.

Directly from an anonymous member of Ricky Minors band here are some real spoilers which came in fresh this morning. Remember: these songs are the pics the Idols made before any dressed rehearsal but they are the real deal. Matt: ‘Fly me to the moon’ (originally Megan’s pick, but Matt insisted). Danny: ‘That’s Amore’ (his second pick is ‘i’ve got you under my skin’). Allison: ‘Can’t Take That Away From Me’. She already sung it during previous rehearsals and will probably do this one on stage. Adam ‘Leroy Brown’ or ‘That’s Life’. ‘That’s life’, was originally claimed by Kris (so don’t act all surprised if Kris comes out on stage with this one). Kris has chosen ‘Fever’ his second choice ‘That’s life’ might also be sung by Adam. And finally the group performance will showcast Allison in a leading role as the female voice in ‘Something Stupid’. Remember during rehearsals things might change.

Jamie Foxx is scheduled to be a “surprise” Mentor on American Idol tonight. Big deal. Isn’t this the same Jamie Foxx who recently made some rather unkind comments about Miley Cyrus? THAT Jamie Foxx? Ugh….

Also, the most recent American Idol news is that there will NOT be TWO songs performed on Idol tonight by the Top 5, but only one song per contestant. Why doesn’t American Idol big-shots just do away with a bunch of this “mentor” nonsense and stop wasting viewer’s time and let the TOP 5 performers do what they do best?! SING!!! And, the judging needs to go back to just three judges – this 4 judge commenting nonsense eats up the entire hour of performances, which means there’s little time left between commercials and stupid Ford video commercials and Group Performances to actually watch the Idol finalists SING!

American Idol Rock Theme will most likely be next weeks’ theme on 5/5/09, since the Top 3 spot is typically reserved for home visits and producers/judges song choices for the Top 3 Finalists.

ETA: Chris Daughtry and band will be debuting their latest single on American Idol according to the band’s VLog, and even though a specific date is not mentioned, Rock Week seems like a very good bet.

Maybe, just maybe, we can all finally hear Allison Iraheta singing a Janis Joplin song like Piece of My Heart, if she’s not voted off American Idol this week. Come on Allison, show us what you’ve got vocally with a Janis Joplin song!

I can visualize Adam Lambert singing Sweet Child O’ Mine by Guns and Roses, or Paint It Black by the Rolling Stones, or even Straight To Hell by The Clash.

American Idol Spoiler Alert! Next week on American Idol (4/28/09), the Top 5 Idol Finalists will sing songs of the Rat Pack. Rat Pack Standards is the theme for next week, songs from the original Rat Packs: Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr, Peter Lawford, Dean Martin and Joey Bishop.

It’s interesting that next week’s Rat Pack Theme includes 5 big-time performers for the American Idol Top 5 finalists. Coincidence? I doubt it.

The Top 5 Idol contestants will be singing TWO songs next week, not just one, so next week’s Idol performances and results show will surely be entertaining and fun.

American Idol Season 5 winner Taylor Hicks will sing his latest single “Seven Mile Breakdown” from his album “The Distance” next week on Wednesday’s Results Show on American Idol. Ha, another use of the number “5″ in next week’s Rat Pack theme.

What songs each of the Final 5 will sing next week is still anyone’s guess, but if we catch onto any Rat Pack song list spoilers, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Tonight’s theme on American Idol 4-7-09 is “Songs From The Year You Were Born“. We’re so excited to see what happens on American Idol tonight and find out what songs each of the Top 9 Idol contestants chose to sing from the year they were born. This is a LIVE recap/review of tonight’s Idol performances as it happens, bringing you the list of songs each Idol contestant performs, the judges comments and our own commentary and predictions of who we think we will be in the Bottom 3 after tonight’s American Idol performances. At the end of this post, you’ll have the chance to make your own predictions and tell us who YOU think should/will be voted off American Idol tomorrow night during the American Idol Results Show, Thursday 4/8/09. Are you ready? Here we go!

***UPDATE: Links are provided below to watch each Idol performance!*** American Idol host, Ryan Seacrest, reminds us of tonight’s theme being songs from year you were born, saying baby pictures of the Top 8 finalists and judges will be shown. Baby pictures of the American Idol judges were then shown. Awww, so cute.

First up to sing is Danny Gokey singing “Stand By Me” by Ben King. Randy Jackson said he didn’t like the arrangement, but loved the vocals saying “You’ve got some talent”. Kara DioGuardi loved Danny’s ability to make Stand By Me his own. Paula Abdul said the performance was “amazing”. Simon Cowell wasn’t impressed with the beginning or middle of the performance, but said “overall, it was good”. Danny Gokey sure can sing! I liked it alright, but I’ve heard him do better.

Next up is Kris Allen singing “All She Wants to Do is Dance” by Don Henley. Kris even played the electric guitar in the mosh pit. Kara DioGuardi liked that Kris chose an uptempo song but the song “lost a lot of its youth”. Paula liked that Kris changed up the song to make it his own. Simon said it was boring, indulgent and forgettable, saying it was a “stupid, stupid, stupid song choice”. Ouch!!! Randy agreed with Simon. Wow, the judges were pretty harsh, but I thought Kris did a pretty good job. He could have chosen a better song to sing from the year he was born, but Kris fans still love him.

Lil Rounds take the stage to sing “What’s Love Got to Do With It” by Tina Turner. The Idol judges reaction to Lil’s performance will be interesting. Paula Abdul said Lil is a “brilliant vocalist” but the performance became a “beautiful Karaoke rendition”. Simon Cowell said “we’re not looking for a second or third copy of Tina Turner”, and he feels “we’ve lost you” and advised Lil Rounds to choose better songs and make the song her own. Randy Jackson agrees with Simon and Paula saying “Tina is not you”, “it’s just not clickin” and that Lil hasn’t been listening to the judges advice. Kara DioGuardi said Lil’s lower vocal range suffers and that singing Tina Turner was not the best choice. We agree with the judges criticism of Lil’s performance tonight. It just wasn’t that great, she’s still pitchy on the big blockbuster notes and there was no WOW factor at all. I predict that Lil Rounds will find herself in the Bottom 3 during tomorrow night’s results show.

Anoop Desai is singing “True Colors” by Cyndi Lauper. Anoop has a beautiful, smooth voice and his performance sounds wonderful. Randy Jackson said Anoop “can actually sing”, “props to you..I like that…I like that!” Kara DioGuardi congratulated Anoop on his performance and liked how Anoop made the song his own and feels it was his “best performance”. Paula Abdul liked it saying “Great choice of song, flawless…fantastic”. Simon Cowell said “One minute you’re down then you’re up…that was very good, but I don’t think it was fantastic”. Simon also told Anoop that he doesn’t need to apologize to anyone for what Anoop described as “overreacting” last week’s friction with Idol judge Kara.

Next up is Scott McIntyre singing “The Search is Over” by Survivor. Or, should I say attempting to sing but hurting my ears with his screeching. Kara said she wouldn’t have chosen that song, that there were some good parts and some bad parts. Paula Abdul described Scott’s attempts to reach the high notes as “screeching”. Simon said the song was “horrible” and “atrocious” and suggested Scott return to playing the piano during his performances. Randy said “it was all okay” but nothing special. I do believe that Scott is in trouble this week, and may very well find himself in the Bottom 3 (and maybe even voted off tomorrow night).

Allison Iraheta takes the Idol stage to sing “I Can’t Make You Love Me” by Bonnie Raitt Blew. Paula said “You just hear one note and it’s undeniably Allison”, and that Allison did a great job making the song her own. Simon Cowell liked Allison’s performance but is still unsure who Allison really is. Randy compared Allison to Kelly Clarkson, saying Allison “can really sing” but needs to connect more with the audience. Kara said “let’s make a record right now”. Allison always sounds great, and I predict she’s definitely safe this week.

Matt Giraud is singing “Part Time Lover” by Stevie Wonder. Soft, slow, bluesy, very nice performance. Randy Jackson immediately said “one of the best of the night”. All the Idol judges like Matt’s performance with Randy Jackson saying “vocally one of the best of the night”. Kara next says “Incredible on every level”. Paula says “Two words…standing O”, and Simon said “A million times better than last week, well done”. What is it about American Idol that they can’t seem to pace the show properly and end up being so short on their comments for the contestants. Maybe if they were to stop wasting time showing stupid baby pictures and chit chat nonsense, they might actually have enough time to talk about the actual performances!

UPDATE VIDEO!!! WATCH ADAM LAMBERT SING MAD WORLD!!! Last but not least is Adam Lambert singing “Mad World” by Tears for Fears. Adam has pulled back this week on the vocals, remaining slow and smooth, and totally kicking ass with his performance of “Mad World”. Of course, since Idol is running late on time as usual, only Simon was able to say or do anything. Simon stands up and gives Adam Lambert a standing ovation! WOW!!! But geez, that’s all they had time for on tonight’s American Idol.

Top 9 Theme Spoiler! Ryan Seacrest announced on his radio show the American Idol theme for the Top 9 Idol contestants will be “TOP DOWNLOADS“. On Tuesday night, March 31, 2009 the Top 9 American Idol finalists will apparently be singing songs from the iTunes downloads/iTunes Top 100 downloads for song choice.

Top Downloads on iTunes, eh? Well, I sure hope Megan Joy carefully considers the variety of songs included in the Top 100 downloads when deciding what song she’ll sing, because her last performance was one of the worst thus far.

American Idol 3-25-09 Recap review of American Idol “50 Years of Motown” Music of Motown LIVE Recap! American Idol’s Motown Special Night presentation began with Idol host, Ryan Seacrest, talking to Idol judges about the great Motown songs to be performed tonight by the American Idol Top 10 Finalists.

Classic Motown performances of Detroit-based Motown, with Berry Gordy (Founder of Motown) and Smokey Robinson are in store for Idol fans tonight. The Top 10 Idol contestants were shown touring Motown (Hittsville U.S.A) with Gordy and Smokey Robinson and discussing the great classic Motown songs performed there.

First up was Matt Giraud singing Marvin Gaye’s hit song “Let’s Get It On“. Idol judge Randy Jackson said “Yo! You worked it out baby!” Kara DioGuardi liked Matt’s performance, but felt Matt “could have pushed it a little more”. Paula Abdul said Matt was “respectful of the melody, great job”. Simon said it was a “brilliant choice of song, you’re voice suits that song”, and that Matt is “one of the front-runners of this competition”. We agree, Matt sang “Let’s Get It On” very well, and deserves the applause from the judges and audience.

Next up was Kris Allen singing “How Sweet It Is“. Kara DioGuardi loved the performance saying “You did everything right on that performance”. Paula Abdul said he “picked a great song” and was “brilliant”. Simon Cowell said Kris was “smart” to choose that song, but he needs more “self-belief” and to “be conceited” to make an impact. Randy Jackson said “it was all good baby”. We agree with the judges, Kris did a good job, but Kris needs to challenge himself more in his song choices.

Third to sing was Scott MacIntyre singing “You Can’t Hurry Love” by Diana Ross and The Supremes. Paula Abdul said Scott “brought it” with his song choice. Simon said “it was completely the wrong song for you” and “a bit cheap”. Randy Jackson agreed with Simon saying “it was a hotel type of performance”, but “nothing great happened” with the performance. Kara said Scott brought some tempo to the song, “took some liberties with the song” and it needed to perfect, but wasn’t.

As Simon continued to say that Scott’s performance wasn’t very good, Paula Abdul gave Simon a box of crayons and a coloring book since Simon “was acting like a 6-year-old”. That was funny! Scott does “okay” as a singer, but he’s just not Idol material.

Next up was Megan Joy singing “For Once In My Life“, after having the flu last week. Randy Jackson said her outfit was great but the song “was a train wreck” and didn’t like how rushed the song was. Kara said the song took over Megan and didn’t like the song choice. Paula liked her outfit but the song was the wrong song choice and too high pitched for her voice. Simon said the song “was horrible and atrocious” and that Megan “could be in serious trouble” with the voters. I didn’t care for Megan’s performance tonight, and have to agree with the judges that she chose the wrong song for her voice. Uh-Oh Megan!

Anoop Desai next sang Smokey Robinson’s “Ooh Baby Baby“. Kara said there were moments she felt Anoop connected to the song and that he did a good job singing, but wants Anoop to “push it more”. Paula said Anoop has a new-found confidence and his vocals were “sweet”. Simon said he did a “great vocal” but appeared bored and needs more “showmanship”. Randy said Anoop needs more energy and needs to “bring the party on” next week. I think Anoop did a very good job, but I did hear some pitchy places and would like to see Anoop do more uptempo songs.

Next to sing was Michael Sarver, who missed the group’s visit to Motown due to being sick, performed “Ain’t To Proud To Beg“. Paula said it felt “Old Las Vegas” to her and Michael needs to “really be dominating that song and not the reverse”. Simon couldn’t “wait for the song to end”, has “no chance to win this competition” and it was below par and “not good enough”. Randy said the “song was a little too big” for Michael and the song became too “corny”. Kara said Michael needs to show his “artist” personality, above and beyond the singing. I thought the song started out pretty good, but it fell apart the more he sang. Michael has a great heart and a great voice, but this was probably not the best song choice for him.

Lil Rounds took the stage to perform “Heat Wave” and hopes to make the “Hittsville” alumna proud of her tonight. Randy said the beginning of the song was “torture” for him to hear and was “not the best performance”. Kara said if Lil Round “doesn’t nail this week” then she’s in line for elimination, and that Lil was “screaming” the song rather than singing. Paula liked it and said Lil “owned that song”. Simon said it was the wrong song choice, performed too fast and said Lil should have considered “Heard It Through The Grapevine”, and said Lil is “one of the best singers in this competition”. Lil Rounds is a very good singer but she keeps choosing the wrong songs for her voice. Hopefully she’ll last long enough in this competition to show us what she really do as a singer.

Next up was Adam Lambert singing “Tracks Of My Tears“, another of Smokey Robinson’s songs. Kara said “one of the best performances of the night”. Paula said she likes Adam’s “clean look” with no nail polish and Adam is “exciting”. Simon said “it was THE BEST PERFORMANCE” of the night thus far. Randy said it was “unbelievably hot”. Adam is amazing in his abilities to perform such a sweet, tender song the way he did. Adam made Tracks Of My Tears his own and I agree wholeheartedly that Adam’s performance was the BEST performance of the night. So far. We’ve still got a couple more to go.

Danny Gokey took the Idol stage to sing “Get Ready“. Paula Abdul said Danny gave a first-class performance. Simon said it was “clumsy and amateurish”. Randy loved the “energy and feeling” of the performance, but said it wasn’t his best performance. Kara said it was good but not the best she’s seen from Danny. I liked the energy and uptempo aspect to Danny’s performance, but there were definitely some pitchy areas with higher notes that made a pretty good beginning not end very well. I doubt this performance will put Danny in any jeopardy of elimination, but hopefully Danny will take the criticism from the judges and make a better song choice next week.

Last, but not least, Allison Iraheta sings “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone” by The Temptations. Randy said Allison “was blazin’ hot”. Kara said the performance was “amazing”. Paula said “you are awesome, you belong in the competition, you are amazing”. Simon said Allison’s performance was “one of the best performances” she’s ever done. Allison rocked Papa Was A Rollin’ Stone! It was great to see her really let loose and really rock a performance. Great job Allison!

American Idol 3/17/09 was the night for a country music theme, with country music star Randy Travis serving as mentor.

The first American Idol to perform was Michael Sarver, who sang Garth Brook’s “Ain’t Goin Down Til The Sun Comes Up“. The judges weren’t very impressed. Simon Cowell hated it and said he couldn’t understand a single word Michael was singing. Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul said it was “fun” but they missed hearing Michael’s vocal range, and Paula said country music was the genre that suits Michael.

Next up was Allison Iraheta singing “Blame It On Your Heart” by Patty Loveless. All four judges agreed Allison’s performance was a good one. Kara DioGuardi gave Allison props for making the song her own. Paula said it was a rock-solid performance. Randy Jackson said the song performance was “dope”. Dear ol’ Simon Cowell didn’t feel the performance was that great, saying it was a bit out of tune at times, but overall felt she did a decent job.

Next was Kris Allen, who sang “To Make You Feel My Love” by Garth Brooks. The judges were all surprisingly impressed with the performance, even without the guitar. Paula said she was “pleasantly surprised”. Simon said Kris did a “terrific” job and called Kris a “tender dog.”

Lil Rounds was next with her version of Martina McBride’s “Independence Day“. Lil Rounds is still growing on me, but her performance and song choice just didn’t seem right, but I can’t put my finger on why. Is it just me or did Lil Rounds sound off-key some of the time? Randy said it was an ambitious song choice but it didn’t feel comfortable to him. Paula must have missed the vocals I heard because Paula thought Lil Rounds was right on target with the performance. Simon Cowell said she sounded like a girl trying to sing a song at a wedding that she didn’t like. Ouch.

Next up was American Idol Fan Site favorite Adam Lambert singing “Ring of Fire” by Johnny Cash. I was a tad nervous when Adam first started singing Ring of Fire, because he’s rather unpredictable and no one is ever quite sure what Adam is going to do. Paula and Kara DioGuardi liked it and Kara said it was “strangely entertaining”. Simon said “What the hell was that?!” and called the performance “indulgent rubbish”. Randy equated Adam’s performance as being like Nine Inch Nails doing a country song, but he said it was “fresh” and current. Strange but good is the way I would it, and the Adam Lambert Ring of Fire Video has been a hot search topic ever since.

Scott MacIntyre sang “Wild Angels” by Martina McBride, at the piano. It was okay…I guess. It started off pretty boring, but towards the end his voice soared. The judges agreed that Scott chooses songs that are too safe, just like the songs Scott has performed over the last couple of weeks, and I have to agree. Paula Abdul said Scott should ditch the piano. Simon said Paula’s comment was disrespectful and told Scott he’s choosing songs that aren’t right for him, are not good enough to stay in the competition. Yeah, I’d have to agree with Simon on that one.

Next was Alexis Grace, who did an okay job singing Dolly Parton’s song “Jolene“. I’m used to hearing her strong vocals, but this performance was rather drab and boring. Trying to “make a song your own” is one thing, but this attempt fell flat, and the judges negative feedback proved they agreed. Randy said the song choice was a good one but the performance itself was not her best. Kara heard it the same way I did and said it was a little flat. Paula, oh Paula, said she liked it and Simon said it was okay…

Recent widower Danny Gokey sang “Jesus Take the Wheel” by Carrie Underwood. I sat on the edge of my seat waiting to see how Danny would do performing this song, but he got through it alright and overall did a pretty decent job. Paula and Simon like the performance, but Simon hated what Danny was wearing. Kara and Randy heard some pitch problems during the first half, but the choruses were great.

Anoop Desai performed Willie Nelson’s “Always On My Mind” and the judges were unanimous with their praise, proclaiming Anoop as the best performance of the night. Simon said he went from Zero to Hero with that performance and arrangement. Anoop is also growing on me, and I must agree that he did a great job performing this song, but I just think there are better singers in this competition. We’ll just have to wait and see how it goes with Anoop.

Surprisingly enough, Megan Joy Corkrey did a great job singing Patsy Cline’s “Walkin After Midnight“. Just like Randy Jackson, I also thought the performance would be a train wreck, but we were both impressed. Kara and Paula commented on how Megan sang while having the flu, adding that the performance was great whether Megan had the flu or not. Jokingly, Simon Cowell said she should have the flu every week.

The last performance of the night was Matt Giraud, who sang “So Small” by Carrie Underwood with good results. Kara DioGuardi felt the performance was amazing and said “there ain’t nothin’ small about you”. Randy said he feels that Matt’s performance was his personal favorite of the night. Simon said that Matt hasn’t yet gotten the credit he deserves for his vocals and that he outsang Danny Gokey.
