American Idol 5/12/11 Top 4 Results – Who Got Voted Off American Idol Tonight

Last night’s dual theme of song performances by the Top 4 brought some great, memorable moments. The competition is really heating up, but the Top 4 are about to be reduced to the Top 3 tonight, and then the remaining finalists take off for their home visits. Who is getting the boot tonight remains to be seen, but considering how close we are to the finale, any one of the finalists could be going home. Tonight could potentially present another shocking elimination; it’s happened before with Pia Toscano.

This is American Idol! Almost 72 Million Votes last night! The highest vote count ever! Wow! Video play-by-play of last night’s performances is shown, and man oh man they were all good!!! Who will be the Top 3 tonight?!

James has been thought to be one of the most popular contestants, and it has seemed as though the judges were trying at times to influence America to vote for James. James received the lowest number of votes this week. Wow. Unbelievable.

The Idol judges are shocked, shaking their heads in disbelief. Ryan speaks with James about the results; he’s choking up and tears are streaming down his face. James Durbin closes the show tonight singing “Maybe I’m Amazed”, with tears pouring down his disappointed face.

Tonight on American Idol, the Top 4 will sing songs from two different themes. Lieber and Stoller songs, and Songs That Inspire. An Idol “spoiler” was released by mistake by last week’s boot recipient Jacob, who announced in an interview that James Durbin will sing “Don’t Stop Believing” tonight. Oops.

This is American Idol!, says Ryan Seacrest. The Season 10 Top 4 contestants take the stage. Ryan says in just 14 days, one of the finalists will be named winner of this season. The Idol Finale will be here very soon Idol fans! Lady Gaga mentors the finalists for tonight’s performances.

James Durbin is up first singing “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey. 1-866-436-5701 or 1-866-436-5705 to vote for James. Good job James! The audience clearly loved the performance. Steven Tyler says this gives viewers a strong clue of what’s to come from James. Jennifer said the song choice was great, great performance, great job. Randy says Journey was one of the greatest rock bands, and when it comes to the highest level of difficulty, “you did it!!!”.

Steven Tyler’s new book is a best seller, as was just announced. Congrats Steven!

Haley Reinhart is up next singing “Earth Song” by Michael Jackson. 1-866-436-5702 or 1-866-436-5706 to vote for Haley, or vote online at AmericanIdol.com. Roaring applause from the audience. Great great performance by Haley tonight. Casey Abrams is in the audience and he applauded loudly. Jennifer says she loved the performance, that Haley really connected with the song, but. Jen says the song has a beautiful message but she needs to consider what other songs are choosing to perform in this competition. Randy says the song choice confused him, it didn’t showcase who she wants to be a singer, and the song needed her to “deliver it” aka Michael Jackson. Wait a minute! If the contestants sing their songs spot-on and sound just like the original singer, then they’re scolded for “not making it your own”. WTH?! Haley stands by her choice saying she felt it and it has an important message. Steven Tyler says both Jennifer and Randy are wrong, she nailed it, don’t believe the other judges comments.

Scotty McCreery talks with Ryan about how important it is to him to last into the Top 3 Finalists. Scotty sings “Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning” by Alan Jackson. 1-866-436-5703 or 1-866-436-5707 or vote online. Now that’s an inspirational song if there ever was one. Randy Jackson says it’s a great song and he can tell that the song was a perfect choice for Scotty, and the lyrics speak well of who Scotty is as a performer. Steven says he could tell in the middle of the performance that Scotty was emotionally moved by the lyrics, and it was a great performance. Jennifer says Scotty is meant to do this, that he was clearly moved by the words of the song. For a moment it seemed as though the audio seemed to fail with his microphone but maybe it was just Scotty’s emotional connection that made his voice break slightly.

Ryan, Scotty Abrams and Paul McDonald remind Idol fans to make plans to get their tickets to the Idol Live Tour coming up.

Lauren Alaina sings “Do It Anyway” by Martina McBride. 1-866-436-5704 or 1-866-436-5708 to vote for Lauren. Smooth performance, very nice. Perfect pitch, strong vocal. Judges applause. Steven says “you did it again”. Right on pitch, a blue plate special, and he loves the buckles on her shoes. “You’re the whole package, I love you” finishes Steven. Jennifer says Lauren is clearly listening to the judges critiques to help her get there to the finish, the night when all the confetti comes falling from above. Randy says “Lauren is back, she’s in it to win it, that was HOT!”. Absolutely nothing was wrong with that performance says Randy. Very well done. Lauren tells Ryan that the song lyrics means everything to her, it’s so inspirational.

Ryan asks Jennifer “Who won round one tonight?” Jenn says everyone did a great job but she’s not going to say who was best so far. Randy says “it’s a tie between Lauren, James and Scotty, but Haley can easily up her game in the next round”. Ouch, that’s gotta hurt Haley’s feelings, and yes, she turns her back as the screen fades to commercial to hide her tears.

Round 2: Lieber and Stoller songs with Lady Gaga mentoring

Haley Reinhart starts round two singing “I Who Have Nothing”, and the rehearsal video clip sure sounds great. 1-866-436-5702 or 1-866-436-5706. Very nice! Dramatic and powerful! The judges give her a standing ovation! Great job! Jennifer says “this is why we can’t take it easy on you, because you are that amazing! You are amazing! One of the best performances of the year!” Randy says she came back and “baby, you just had a moment right here and puts you in it to win it! One of your best vocals ever!” Steven says this was a classic moment, it was beautiful. Randy hugs Haley as a show of support. Very very strong performance by Haley tonight.

Scotty McCreery sings “Young Blood”. During the mentoring phase, Lady Gaga told him to treat the microphone as if it’s his girlfriend, that he’s making love to “his girlfriend” (the microphone) and keep his mouth on it. Steven loved the performance and the humorous side, and the comical mentoring with Gaga. Jennifer says she loved the “attack” transformation-character Lauren presented from the beginning, a very mature, sexy, great performance. She loved it. Randy says Lady Gaga gave Lauren really good advice and she a great job tonight. Great performance by Lauren! Oh my gosh, the predictions of who will be voted off tomorrow night are going to go wild! No guesses from me though, this season is anyone’s game!

Jennifer says that showed her he can sing anything. Really, really great performance, she says. Randy Jackson says all four contestants are in it to win it. Last night’s Top 5 American Idol performances of the Then and Now theme had some very good performances, but someone is going to get the boot anyway. Who is going home? Haley? Jacob? Lauren? It will be interesting to see if Ryan Seacrest announces how many votes were received last night, since in week’s past that information has been left out. Is America bored with Season 10?

This is American Idol!

Wow! Ryan says 60 million votes came in last night! That’s a first! Jennifer Lopez will perform tonight, plus Lady Antebellum will sing too. Ryan reminds us that the American Idol Live Tour tickets go on sale May 13th. The Top 5 contestants sing their group song “Happy Together”. These group songs are the least favorite parts of the show, at least for me.

Season 11 auditions will take place over the summer in various cities and locations, and more details will be announced next week.

Top 5 Ford video is shown to the song “Be Yourself”. Video is shown of the Top 5 with Chef Ramsey in the kitchen and the Idols have to race to make a spectacular omelet. A couple contestants asked if Chef Ramsey was going to teach them how to make an omelet first. Ha! Lauren did great! Lauren won first place and Jacob won second place, but Chef says the competition isn’t over yet. More to come on that.

Lady Antebellum sings Just a Kiss, to be released on May 17, so pre-order now! Great song!

Results! Ryan has James Durbin stand. Video clip of Jimmy saying last night’s performance was an 8 out of 10, and that James lost his singing voice when he broke down in tears. James is asked to stand at the opposite side of the stage.

Lauren Alaina is asked to stand. Jimmy says she pulled back in her performance last night, and it could keep her out of the finals. He predicts Lauren will be in the bottom 2 tonight. Uh Oh! Lauren is asked to stand nearest to Ryan, on the opposite side of the stage from James Durbin.

The Chef Ramsey kitchen race between Lauren and Jacob continues… Each are blindfolded and must do a taste test of different foods. Lauren wins the taste test contest. Tasting the Tofu (Yuck!) grossed both of them out.

Jennifer Lopez performs her number 1 hit single On The Floor with Pitbull. What a great dance song! Very Nice!

While Jennifer is backstage changing clothes, we’re shown video of Jennifer’s music video. And she’s back.

Jacob Lusk is asked to stand. Jimmy says Jacob had a rough night last night. Yes he did. Jimmy says Jacob has lost confidence in himself and it’s showing. Jacob joins Lauren nearest Ryan.

Haley Reinhart stands next. Jimmy says Haley needed to do something “dangerous” since she’s been running 4th or 5th place, in his opinion. Jimmy says she did a great job with her performance and says she gets a 10 in his opinion, and a lock in for the finale. Haley joins James Durbin on the far side of the stage.

Scotty McCreery stands next. Jimmy says Scotty’s performance was stellar, but his second song came up a bit short and will have a great singing career even if he doesn’t win the show. Scotty has never been in the Bottom 2. Scotty is SAFE!

Ryan asks Scotty to stand with the team he thinks is the Bottom 2 but he says no, he won’t do it. Ryan leads him over to stand by Haley and James and says they’re all SAFE! Lauren Alaina and Jacob Lusk are the Bottom 2 tonight. Both look devastated. Lauren is crying. Who is going home?

The person who got voted off American Idol tonight is Jacob Lusk! Lauren Alaina is SAFE!

Jacob sings his final song, to close out the show. He sings Luther Vandross’ song “A House Is Not A Home”.

This is American Idol! the Idol Finale is just three weeks away! Here come the Top 5 contestants looking hot! Ryan and Randy agree that tonight of all nights is a very important night, as America wants to know Who is in it to win it?! The finalists need to step it up (A LOT) if they hope to win votes and even come close to winning this thing.

Sheryl Crow mentors the contestants for the performances tonight with Jimmy. The Top 5 Idols will each sing two songs tonight, one from the 60′s and the other from the 70′s, so get ready for the phone numbers, unless you’re planning to vote online.

James Durbin‘s first song tonight is “Closer To The Edge” by 30 Seconds to Mars. 1-866-436-5701 or 1-866-436-5706. Steven Tyler says James “kicked that song’s ass!”. Jennifer says America is feeling it, the win is his to take. Randy says this performance shows that James is in it to win it!

Jacob Lusk is up next. He tells Ryan he believes he can win at the finale. Jacob chooses to sing “No Air” by Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown. 1-866-436-5702 or 1-866-436-5707. Jennifer has struggled with what kind of songs Jacob would choose to sing on his album if he wins, and she encourages him to focus his song choices on who he is as an artist. Randy disagrees, saying he’s one of the greatest singers on Idol. Randy feels there were parts that were “sharp” and choosing a duet-type song didn’t really wear well, for him. Steven says he’s waiting for Jacob to find his niche, that “certain something that’s 100%” Jacob.

Randy Jackson says “that is the direction for you!” Randy thought it was amazing; Lauren is in it to win it!” Steven loved it and Jennifer says Lauren “ate that up” and the judges are looking to see who is going to rise to the top and that’s how you do it!

Scotty McCreery sings “Gone” by Montgomery Gentry. 1-866-436-5704 or 1-866-436-5709. Steven Tyler says Scotty showed a whole other side of himself tonight and he loved it. Jennifer says she heard some growling in the performance and she loved it. Randy says he felt like they were all sitting at a Scotty concert, and Scotty’s in it to win it too!

Haley Reinhart sings an unreleased Lady GaGa song called “You And I”. 1-866-436-5705 or 1-866-436-5710. Maybe Haley’s time for a “moment” tonight suggests Sheryl Crow. Jennifer hesitantly says Haley sounded good towards the end, but she disagrees with Jimmy’s advice to perform that particular song (that everybody knows) and showcases Haley best. Randy agrees, saying the song choice was risky and choosing a song no one is familiar with may not be the best idea. Steven says she chose a risky thing to do and she performs very well and is “just one perfect song away from being the American Idol”.

James Durbin sings his second song for the night, “I Can’t Live (If Living is Without You)” and it’s a very emotional song choice for him. Tears in his eyes as he finishes his song. Steven agrees wholeheartedly. Jennifer applauds the heart James shows in his performances – “he’s amazing you guys, amazing”. Jennifer says Jacob really brought it home in the end and it was really good. Randy says Jacob redeemed himself tonight with that performance, and perhaps the highest note reached on the Idol stage yet.

Lauren Alaina‘s second song is “Unchained Melody” by The Righteous Brothers. 1-866-436-5703 or 1-866-436-5708. Not only does Lauren look amazing tonight but wow that was a great performance! Jennifer agrees, and she has nothing else to say. “It was beautiful”. Randy is very happy to see this tender side of Lauren tonight. Steven says it was perfect and there’s nothing to judge with that song choice and performance. Good job!

Scotty McCreery sings “Always On My Mind” by Elvis for his second song. 1-866-436-5704 or 1-866-436-5709. Jimmy advises Scotty not to try to compete with the other Idols and just be himself. Jennifer says he showed us he’s a very versatile performer, going from the first song to this one, that he’s a true performer. Randy says “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”. Randy says when Scotty does the simplest things (tender, slow songs), the audience eats it up and he loved the performance. Steven says America loves Scotty’s voice and America is going to have a hard time choosing who to vote for tonight.

Haley Reinhart closes the show tonight with her second song “The House Of The Rising Sun” by The Animals. 1-866-436-5705 or 1-866-436-5710. The judges give Haley a standing ovation! Randy says The Best Performance of the Night goes to Haley! Randy says she’s blossomed so much, it was sooo good! Steven says he feels she sold everybody tonight with that performance. Jennifer says that song has never been sang like that before; great job! Very good performance by Haley tonight!

This week’s theme on American Idol is Carole King songs. If the idea of the Top 6 singing Carole King songs doesn’t excite you, you’re not alone. Quite a few Idol fan blogs aren’t the least bit interested in this week’s theme, but hopefully the six finalists will pull it off tonight and knock our socks off. Hmm, or not.

Ryan Seacrest introduces each of the Top 6 finalists on stage, adding that America has “chosen the best of the best” from the audition and competition. “This is American Idol!” says Ryan. Video clip is shown of Carole King’s iconic history in music to start the show. “Babyface” Kenny Edmonds mentors the Top 6, working alongside Jimmy.

Jacob Lusk is first to sing tonight. Jacob chose “Oh No Not My Baby” by Carole King. 1-866-436-5701 or 1-866-436-5707 to vote for Jacob, or vote online at AmericanIdol.com. What is Jacob wearing? Bright yellow shirt, blue cardigan sweater, plus purple striped bow tie, plus plaid jacket and jeans. Wow. Steven Tyler loved the performance, calling it “beautiful”. Steven likes the “strut” from Jacob’s moves. Jennifer loved the performance, even with some imperfect spots. Randy agrees, calling it an “energetic performance”, a “great/incredible” singer.

Lauren Alaina is up next, singing Carole’s song “Where You Lead”. 1-866-436-5702 or 1-866-436-5708, or vote online. Jennifer tells the audience “Yes, Clap, Clap!” Jennifer says she can see that Lauren is pushing herself, she’s doing much better and Jen is very proud of Lauren. Randy Jackson didn’t “love” the song but he did love her performance and how she pushed herself, and he can tell that Lauren really wants to win this thing. Steven Tyler says when Lauren’s voice cracked during the performance, it shows the character in the voice. Lauren is smiling but teary-eyed from the judges praise. Lauren really needs to learn to believe in herself as a singer and performer, and she’s trying.

Haley Reinhart and Casey Abrams are singing a duet song “I Feel The Earth Move” by Carole King together. There’s no voting numbers for the duets, just performances to enjoy tonight. Steven Tyler spoke for all the judges, saying there wasn’t anything in the performance that he didn’t like; Haley looked and sounded gorgeous. Very nice job!

Scotty McCreery is up next singing “You’ve Got A Friend” by Carole King. 1-866-436-5703 or 1-866-436-5709, or vote online at American Idol. Randy Jackson says the beginning of the song was flawless, he didn’t know that Scotty could sing that low, and he loved it. Steven Tyler liked how Scotty went for the higher notes in his register, it still had the country feel and he loved it. Jennifer also loved the performance, a big improvement from last week.

James Durbin chats with Ryan Seacrest about the duet performance between Casey and Haley, saying it was a lot better than the dress rehearsal and it was great. Jennifer is loving the performance since she’s dancing in her seat. Very good performance by James tonight! Steven Tyler says James did it again. Jennifer says “it was magical”. Jennifer says it was the best performance of the night, and his consistency is what will show will win the competition in the finale. Randy says “that was incredible”, adding that “this guy just might win the whole thing!”.

Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery duet Carole King’s song “Up On The Roof”. Jennifer says Lauren sang her…brains off and she loved the whole performance from Lauren and Scotty. Lauren sounded really good, Scotty…not so much.

Casey Abrams sings Carole Kings’ song “Hi-De-Ho”. 1-866-436-5705 or 1-866-436-5711, or vote online. Randy says he feels like that song was written for Casey to sing, a jazzy-bluesy tune. Randy says he’s excited each week, knowing he’ll be entertained with something different every week. Steven says it was “beautiful”. Jennifer says Casey was in his element tonight with the whole arrangement, but she’d like to see him loosen up his body a little bit and move a little more naturally.

Haley Reinhart sings “Beautiful” by Carole King. 1-866-436-5706 or 1-866-436-5712. Steven says she is as beautiful as that song is. Steven hears God when Haley sings. “You nailed it, yes you did!”. Jennifer loved the whole performance and says Haley has an amazing voice. Randy didn’t love the beginning but says she’s a great singer and performer. Haley really did do a great job with that song.

James Durbin and Jacob Lusk duet Carole King’s song “I’m Into Something Good”. Wow! What a great performance to finish out the night’s performances, two very powerful singers slaying that song!

American Idol 4/21/11 Top 7 Results – Who Got Voted Off American Idol Tonight

Last night’s 21st Century performances by the Top 7 were pretty darn good, but one of the contestants is getting the boot tonight. Online polls and predictions of who will be voted off each week have been notoriously wrong for weeks, so there’s no point in even attempting to predict tonight’s results. Some American Idol watchers feel it’s past the time for Stefano Langone to go home, and IF Dial Idol predictions are correct this time around, they may get their wish. But, Dial Idol hasn’t exactly been right on the money for some time now. According to DI, Stefano received the lowest number of votes and is most likely the contestant being sent home tonight. We’ll see about that when Ryan makes the announcement.

This is American Idol! The judges make their entrance, followed by Ryan Seacrest. Ryan says tonight is going to be “another difficult elimination”. The Top 7 will soon become the Top 6, as the contestants are introduced. Over 52 million votes came in last night, says Ryan. Katy Perry will be singing tonight, and David Cook will debut his latest single.

“Hey Soul Sister” by Train is being sung by Haley Reinhart, Lauren Alaina, Jacob Lusk and Stefano Langone. Nah, this group doesn’t really sound good together. Harmony is lacking.

The Ford commercial video “World” is played.

“Viva La Vida” by Cold Play is sung by Casey Abrams, Scotty McCreery and James Durbin. The guys at least sound better harmony-wise than the other group song did.

Casey is asked to stand up. Jacob also stands as requested. Both of these guys sounded very good last night, and the judges liked their performances. Jacob explains the music track mishap when he first began singing and how he just kept going. Casey is SAFE! Jacob is in the Bottom 3 tonight.

David Cook takes the stage singing his new single “The Last Goodbye” from his new album of the same name.

The Top 7 were treated to some fun activities during the week (when not rehearsing) like bowling, going to a Dodgers game, spa treatments, etc. Relaxation time for the contestants.

They both have the summer tour and the finale to participate in, so no matter what happens, they have a future ahead of them in the music business.

Tonight on American Idol, the Top 7 Idol contestants sing songs from the 21st century. Online prediction polls can’t seem to come to any consensus of who is most likely to get the boot next, and the most recent eliminations of Pia Toscano and Paul McDonald have at least given many Idol fans pause. No one in this competition is safe from being voted off, and if Idol viewers aren’t voting for their favorite(s), we’re sure to have more shocking results shows and the possibility of an assumed Idol finale winner being sent home.

This is American Idol! Here come the Idol judges Randy, Jennifer and Steven Tyler (with a big red lipstick kiss mark on his cheek). Ryan Seacrest introduces the Top 7 finalists. The previously eliminated girls from Season 10 and Paul McDonald appear together to sing “So What” by Pink. Pia’s new boyfriend Mark Ballas from Dancing With the Stars is in the audience too.

Scotty McCreery is first up tonight singing “Swinging”. 1-866-436-5701 to vote for Scotty, or vote online at AmericanIdol.com. Steven Tyler liked the performance but would like for Scotty to “boot scoot” a little more around the stage. Jennifer says Scotty needs to push himself and she feels like he could have/should have chosen a different song to showcase who he is as a performer. Randy Jackson said the song was boring for him and Scotty could have chosen much better. At this point in the competition each of the finalists have to perform at the top of their game each and every week, and Randy said it was a safe song choice.

James Durbin is up next singing “Uprising” by Muse. 1-866-436-5702 to vote for James or vote online. Jennifer thoroughly enjoyed the performance and was surprised that James could sing as high as he was. Best performance of the night prediction by Randy and Jennifer. Randy says “he slayed it!”. Steven Tyler loved the performance saying it was “crazy good”. Very good performance by James tonight, predicted to be the best of the night even though he’s only the second contestant to sing.

Haley Reinhart is singing “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele. 1-866-436-5703 or vote online at American Idol. Randy says Haley showed she’s going in the perfect direction by that song choice. Very good performance, Randy says a “great performance”. Steven Tyler says the song started a little slow but she did a great job with it. Jennifer loved the performance and enjoyed the moments in the song where Haley was being herself and not trying to be a karaoke copycat of Adele. Great job!

Jacob Lusk is next singing “Dance With My Father” by Luther Vandross. 1-866-436-5704. Steven loved the performance and of course noticed the emotion Jacob showed in the performance. Great great performance. Jennifer also loved the performance, loved the emotional connection Jacob had with the song (Jacob’s father died when he was very young). Randy also loved the performance, but wants the old Jacob back with the super high notes and just let loose with the vocals. Jacob is often compared to Luther Vandross, and for very good reason.

Casey Abrams is singing “Harder to Breathe” by Maroon 5. 1-866-436-5705 or vote online. Jennifer loved the song, the performance and the surprise kiss on the cheek by Casey at the end of his performance. Casey went rock tonight and Jennifer loved all of it. Randy loved the surprise tonight of Casey going rock and choosing to sing Maroon 5. Randy enjoyed it and wants Casey to continue taking chances and loves how Casey doesn’t fit into just one genre. Steven Tyler calls Casey a “cult hero cuz you’re so F**&&^&* good!” Bleep bleep bleep – Steven was being Steven again with the swearing and the audience loved it.

After the commercial break, Steven Tyler has black tape over his mouth for censorship of his swearing. ha!

Stefano Langone is up next singing “Closer” by Ne-Yo. 1-866-436-5706 to vote for Stefano, or vote online at AmericanIdol.com. Whoooooooo! Randy Jackson thought it would turn out jerky but said Stefano took his time singing the verses and he loved it. Smooth performance, Randy is proud of the performance and dance moves. Steven hoped he’d dance as well as sing well and he did. Jennifer said it was very very good, he had his “swag” going on, it felt like a real performance and not over-rehearsed. Ryan said Stefano turned it into ladies night. Good job by Stefano tonight.

Lauren Alaina gets the “pimp spot” tonight singing “Born to Fly” by Sara Evans. 1-866-436-5707 to vote for Lauren, or vote online. Steven Tyler tells Lauren she’s so good and he’d like her to sing some Allison Krause for him. Jennifer tells Lauren that the people that sing notes that Lauren doesn’t feel qualified to sing are the very notes that Lauren needs to sing for us. Randy also tells Lauren that she has the vocal ability to let loose and really blow people’s minds with her singing, if she’d just let loose. Randy loved her performance and tells Lauren to Bring It next week and let loose and not hold back.

Last night’s Idol performances of Songs From The Movies was quite entertaining, but as we all know, one of the Top 8 will be voted off American Idol tonight and sent home. After last week’s shocking elimination of Pia Toscano, predicting who will get the boot is really a waste of time. Any one of the Top 8 contestants could go home tonight, as who is safe and who gets sent home all depends on who got the most and least number of votes.

The Idol judges are introduced to the stage, followed by Ryan Seacrest. Over 53 Million votes came in last night. Rihanna is scheduled to perform tonight, and Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson will perform their duet song “Don’t You Wanna Stay”.

Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina perform Lady Antebellum’s song “American Honey”. Beautiful song, great duet performance.

Each of the Idol’s are loaded up with makeup to look like zombies for the Ford commercial, then the finished Ford video is shown.

Haley Reinhart and Casey Abrams sing their duet song “Moaning”. Good job! The judges all agree that this duet performance was incredible.

Lauren Alaina, Haley Reinharat, Casey Abrams and Scotty McCreery are all brought center stage for the results. Scotty is Safe! Lauren is Safe! Casey is Safe and Haley is in the Bottom 3.

Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson sing their platinum hit song “Don’t You Wanna Stay“. Love this song! Outstanding performance!!! Then, Kelly tells Ryan that Casey Abrams “is delicious”, “he’s cute”. haha!

From the movie “The Graduate”, Stefano Langone, James Durbin, Jacob Lusk and Paul McDonald sing Simon & Garfunkel’s song “Sound of Silence”, and “Mrs. Robinson”. “Good job guys!”, says Ryan.

The four guys are center stage for the results. James Durbin is Safe! Stefano is in the Bottom 3, joining Haley. Jacob is Safe and Paul is in the Bottom 3 tonight.

Fans of American Idol contestant Pia Toscano are still reeling from her shocking elimination from American Idol last week, some vowing to never watch American Idol ever again. We’ll see how long that lasts. Tonight on American Idol, the Top 8 finalists sing Songs From The Movies per this week’s theme. Whichever of the Idol finalists ultimately wins at the end of the competition is obviously anyone’s game, so Idol fans are regularly reminded to Vote, Vote, Vote! Make note of the phone numbers below to text in your votes, or vote online.

The Idol judges are introduced, followed by Ryan Seacrest. This is Top 8 week says Ryan. Congratulations to Idol judge Jennifer Lopez for being voted the World’s Most Beautiful Woman by People Magazine. Tonight is a fresh start for the remaining contestants, says Ryan.

First to sing tonight is Paul McDonald with “Old Time Rock and Roll” by Bob Seger. 1-866-436-5701. Nice uptempo song; good song choice for Paul and he looks hot in that floral black suit. Steven Tyler liked it a lot. Jennifer says each time Paul performs, he gets more polished and performs well for the audience. Good job, says Jennifer. Randy Jackson loved the performance, loved the wild suit. Paul sang and danced and performed well tonight.

Next is Lauren Alaina singing “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus. 1-866-436-5702. Lauren is actually singing Miley’s song better than Miley herself. Great song choice for Lauren, sung very well, beautiful job. Audience loved it too, lots of clapping and screaming from fans. The Idol mentors told Lauren prior to singing that she can “steal Pia’s votes” and win over Pia’s fans. Maybe. Jennifer Lopez says Lauren sang it beautifully, that she doesn’t need to feel as though she must steal Pia’s vote because she can get her own votes on her own merit. Randy loved Lauren’s performance. Steven says it was “beautiful” and Lauren’s singing “moves me beyond tears”.

Stefano Langone is up next singing “End Of The Road” by Boyz II Men. 1-866-436-5703. Stefano is killin’ this song, in a good way! Good song choice and very good performance. He’s definitely connecting better with the audience tonight. Great vocal control, he hit the high notes very well. Great job! Randy Jackson says “dude…you slayed the song!”. Randy says that was Stefano’s BEST vocal to date; “he’s in it to win it”! Steven Tyler says “this is so not the end of the road” for Stefano, but “it’s only the beginning”. Jennifer says Stefano now knows the key to winning, “you did it!”. The audience applauds in agreement with the judges comments.

Scotty McCreery sings “I Cross My Heart” by George Strait, rather than his original choice of “Everybody’s Talking”. 1-866-436-5704. Gawd I love this song. Steven Tyler loves Scotty’s voice, loved the song choice and thought it was a great performance. Jennifer didn’t feel it was the best song choice for Scotty, but he pulled it off. Randy Jackson says “A star is born on this stage”. Randy is a huge fan of Scotty and is blown away by how much Scotty has grown since the beginning of Season 10.

Casey Abrams is up next singing “Nature Boy” by Nat King Cole. 1-866-436-5705. The Idol mentors didn’t want Casey to do this song tonight and recommended he sing his second song choice by Phil Collins. Casey decided to “resurrect Nature Boy”. Standing ovation by the audience and all three Idol judges. Jennifer was nervous with the choice but she loves the diversity of song choices and genre with this season, that American Idol brings out all types of music and she hopes America “got this”. Randy Jackson says he doesn’t think we’ve ever had anyone like Casey in all the seasons the show has been on the air. Randy says “it was brilliant, genius”. Randy says it makes him proud to sit there as a Idol judge for music opportunities like that. Steven Tyler says Casey took a great old song that Steven’s momma sang to him as a baby, and that he owned the song. Very good performance tonight.

Haley Reinhart is next singing “Call Me” by Blondie. 1-866-436-5706. Cool looking purple knee boots and short, shiny dress outfit. Randy Jackson didn’t like the beginning; “it sounded very karaoke at the beginning but it got better”, he says. Randy says it didn’t showcase Haley’s voice very well. Steven loved the song choice and performance, and her sexy outfit. Jennifer agrees more with Randy, it wasn’t the best she’s done so far and that Haley needs to believe she belongs on the show. Jennifer is concerned about the loss of all but two girls on Idol and encourages Haley to continue to do what she’d done the last two weeks in her song choice, vocals and overall performance. (Steven doesn’t seem to be handing out very much real criticism lately and just keeps on soft peddling his way through the performances).

Jacob Lusk is up next singing “Bridge Over Troubled Water”. 1-866-436-5707. Originally Jacob was somewhat indecisive about what song amongst two options he would sing, and after singing both for the mentors, Jacob went with the mentor’s recommendation. Good thing he did too! This is a big song, but Jacob has the pipes for it. Great job Jacob! Jacob slayed this song! Such a powerful singer, with great vocal control and range. Wow wow wow!!! Goosebumps!!! Steven Tyler says he gets chills when Jacob sings. Steven says those last three notes were incredible, and his voice is great. Jennifer Lopez says she doesn’t even know that last note Jacob manages to do and congratulates him for a great job. Randy Jackson says every word Jacob sings is perfect, perfect, perfect harmony – “Dude, you did an amazing job with this song tonight”.

The Idol “Pimp” spot goes to James Durbin singing “Heavy Metal” by Sammy Hagar. 1-866-436-5708. The Idol mentor’s didn’t want James to do this song but James hopes America will “give metal a chance”. Lots of “whoooo hooooo” going on by the audience and the judges! Jennifer Lopez says that “felt really really real!”. Jennifer says “it’s crazy in here tonight; whoever would have thought that on American Idol we would have heavy metal and it was great! We have a heavy metal American Idol!” Randy loved it! Randy Jackson says “this is unbelievable! You did you and hopefully America brings back heavy metal!”. Steven Tyler says it was “great; excellent man”. Steven says he also loved the “lip” Jacob gave the mentors who were against the song choice. Jacob slayed it tonight!

The internet is buzzing with talk and outrage about the possible reasons why Pia Toscano was voted off American Idol on Thursday night, April 7th. Hollywood stars, popular musicians, Idol fan blogs, past American Idol alum contestants and Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe are all weighing in on the shocking elimination of Pia Toscano. Why was Pia voted off Idol?

Was Pia Toscano a front runner, a sure bet to win Season 10 of American Idol in the first place? Apparently not, according to Nigel. Idol fans and Idol fan blogs have been saying that this season of Idol might be the best season yet, with extremely talented Idol contestants vying for the final win. Is this season the season for a country winner, ie Scotty McCreery or Lauren Alaina? Some say it is, others aren’t so sure.

A lot of online chatter about Pia’s shocking elimination concludes that the overall demographics of teenie-bopper teenage girls making up the majority of viewership for American Idol is at least one possible reason for the loss of Pia. Some Idol fan blogs and message boards have posted opinion that teenage girls watching Idol quickly pick their favorite, most often due to a crush on one or more of the guy contestants.

Once that crush is in place, these young Idol viewers text vote or vote online nonstop for two straight hours for their favorite male contestant, until no time is left to vote. The idea that teenage girls watching Idol would consider voting for a stunningly beautiful female contestant gifted with a spectacular singing voice, is considered by some to be highly unlikely.

It’s also quite interesting, if not telling, when Ryan Seacrest makes no announcement of how many votes came in as he so often does. Thursday night, Ryan said nothing of the total vote numbers. Online reports say American Idol ratings are down, with some reports saying 9% down and others claiming only 5%. After Pia Toscano was voted off, Ryan emphasized to America the importance for fans to Vote, Vote, Vote for their favorite(s).

Watching the final vote off of Pia on Thursday, it was clear the Idol judges were completely shocked, as were the rest of America. Twitter blew up with reactions about Pia being voted off, including Idol alums Chris Daughtry, Mandisa, David Cook, Stefano Langone, Naima Adedapo, Adam Lambert, Jennifer Hudson, David Archuleta, Melinda Doolittle, Katie Stevens, and many others wondering What the Hell Just Happened?!?!

“Pia performed her swan song, the Pretenders’ “I’ll Stand by You,” which ironically begins: “Oh, why you look so sad? / Tears are in your eyes.” And for the very first time, Pia sounded mediocre, but what would you expect from someone who had just gotten the emotional wind knocked out of her? “I couldn’t even breathe at that moment,” Pia later told me in a backstage interview, “so the fact that I could get anything out was a miracle.” Once Pia finished singing, the judges promptly marched onstage, and Haley signaled to the audience to start cheering. The crowd began chanting “Pia! Pia! Pia!” A row of young women screamed, “We love you, Pia!” And one guy shouted, “I’ll buy your record!”

“The most noticeable thing, though, was that the audience didn’t budge. Normally, people vacate the Idoldome at the earliest possible second in order to avoid the remote chance of a surprise Rebecca Black concert. But tonight, everyone stood standing in their seats, watching as the various judges and contestants attempted to comfort the season’s best vocalist”, says Popwatch

“I’m shocked. I’m angry. I don’t even know what to say,” J.Lo ranted, faulting the voters for failing to read her mind and discern which of the nine heavily praised finalists she loved better than others.

“I’m with Jennifer. We’re all in shock. I’m gutted. You’re one of the best singers in this. I’m never upset on this show, but this makes me mad. Really mad,” Randy Jackson told the tearful, crying Toscano. “I’m shocked. I’m angry. I don’t even know what to say,” J.Lo ranted, faulting the voters for failing to read her mind and discern which of the nine heavily praised finalists she loved better than others. MSNBC

To say that many American Idol watchers are angry is putting it mildly. Some are vowing to never watch Idol again. Some have the opinion that the voting system is somehow rigged.

“Well, if you’re reading about “American Idol” tonight the comments on Twitter, Facebook and just about anywhere you look aren’t pretty.

Some fans are vowing to never watch again and the curse words are flying. That’s because we might have witnessed one of the biggest upsets in the show’s history. Idol darling Pia Toscano was sent home tonight.” Wall Street Journal

On Friday, Nigel Lythgoe spoke with Lindsey Parker from Reality Rocks. In the interview, Nigel says Pia Toscano wasn’t expected to be the Idol finale winner anyway. The fact that this season of Idol has some amazingly talented artists should suggest to American Idol voters that NO ONE IS SAFE and ANYONE CAN HOME AT ANY TIME.

“I know the [voting] results, so I know she was never a frontrunner…The fact of the matter is, it appears that Pia didn’t connect with the audience the way we maybe think she did.”

“This is going to happen every week now, because the talent is so strong.”

Addressing fan feedback that maybe changed need to be made to the elimination process to keep the “wrong” person from going home, Nigel says Idol will never limit votes BUT “Maybe if we change the rules next season, maybe do the same thing we do on ‘So You Think You Can Dance’….so that America votes for the bottom three, and then the judges decide who goes home….I think that will be thought about.”

Of course, Nigel realizes that any ideas of changing the voting and elimination process would have to be discussed with the show’s creator, Simon Fuller. “It’s not my format”, says Nigel.
