***UPDATE: Links are provided below to watch each Idol performance!*** American Idol host, Ryan Seacrest, reminds us of tonight’s theme being songs from year you were born, saying baby pictures of the Top 8 finalists and judges will be shown. Baby pictures of the American Idol judges were then shown. Awww, so cute.

First up to sing is Danny Gokey singing “Stand By Me” by Ben King. Randy Jackson said he didn’t like the arrangement, but loved the vocals saying “You’ve got some talent”. Kara DioGuardi loved Danny’s ability to make Stand By Me his own. Paula Abdul said the performance was “amazing”. Simon Cowell wasn’t impressed with the beginning or middle of the performance, but said “overall, it was good”. Danny Gokey sure can sing! I liked it alright, but I’ve heard him do better.

Next up is Kris Allen singing “All She Wants to Do is Dance” by Don Henley. Kris even played the electric guitar in the mosh pit. Kara DioGuardi liked that Kris chose an uptempo song but the song “lost a lot of its youth”. Paula liked that Kris changed up the song to make it his own. Simon said it was boring, indulgent and forgettable, saying it was a “stupid, stupid, stupid song choice”. Ouch!!! Randy agreed with Simon. Wow, the judges were pretty harsh, but I thought Kris did a pretty good job. He could have chosen a better song to sing from the year he was born, but Kris fans still love him.

First up is Anoop Desai singing “Caught Up” by Usher. Idol Judge Randy Jackson didn’t feel the song was right for Anoop, but said the vocals were good. Kara DioGuardi didn’t like the performance one bit. Paula Abdul said Anoop needs to work on showmanship, and didn’t agree with the song choice either. Simon Cowell said Anoop’s performance “was a complete and utter mess” and it gave Simon a headache. We didn’t care much for Anoop’s performance either, but we’ll see what happens with the votes.

Next up is Megan Joy singing “Turn The Lights Down Low” by Bob Marley. Kara DioGuardi said the song choice was wrong, wrong, wrong and that Megan’s vocal registry “became irritating”. Paula Abdul said she didn’t like it either. Simon Cowell said the song choice was “indulgent and boring”, “no one would like that song”. Randy Jackson said the song choice and performance was “like watching paint dry”. Ouch! I couldn’t agree more with the judges negative review of Megan’s song choice and performance.

Danny Gokey then took the Idol stage singing “What Hurts The Most” by Rascal Flatts. Paula Abdul said “this is where you thrive”. Simon Cowell said “it was the best performance so far”. Randy Jackson said “tonight’s show starts right here”, but Danny needs to “keep the swagger” and it was a “very nice” performance. Kara DioGuardi said “you moved everyone in this room emotionally, and it’s hard to do”.

mandisa-huntleyWhat happened to American Idol’s Mandisa? Past American Idol’s season 5 contestant, Mandisa, won’t be recognized by American Idol judges now that Mandisa has lost 75 pounds, according to CNN.

Idol Judge Simon Cowell previously commented on Mandisa’s weight saying, “We’re going to have to get a bigger stage”, but Mandisa has lost an incredible 75 pounds and hopes to lose 100 or more due to what Mandisa calls a food addiction.

Mandisa Huntley says she still watches American Idol faithfully, and Mandisa’s album entitled “Freedom” is due out on March 24th. Mandisa’s song “God Speaking” is a favorite amongst fans of the Gospel singer most thought would become an R&B singer, but Mandisa said, “Christian music is the music that comes the most naturally for me”.

Mandisa has her own favorites on American Idol Season 8. She’s a fan of Danny Gokey, the 28-year-old widower from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She also enjoys 23-year-old Matt Giraud and Lil Rounds, “But I am still rooting for Danny to win,” she said.
