Idol host Ryan Seacrest asks Simon Cowell what he thought of last night’s Rat Pack performances and Simon says “everyone was good”. Taylor Hicks, Natalie Cole and Idol Mentor Jamie Foxx will perform tonight.

Top 5 Group performance “It Don’t Mean a Thing” and “I Got Rhythm”. It was okay; the group performances are always pre-taped and lack the WOW factor of singing/performing LIVE.

A few Idol Top 5 Birthdays were celebrated in one weekend. Video of the Top 5 in the kitchen “making a cake” but turns into a food fight.

The kitchen was a huge mess, with the food fight supposedly being started by Danny Gokey. Danny was handed a “birthday present” which was a $6000.00 bill to clean up the mess.

Matt Giraud is asked to stand on the right side of the stage. Danny Gokey is asked to head to the left side of the stage. Allison Iraheta is asked to stand next to Danny on the left side of the stage. Kris Allen is asked to stand next to Matt Giraud. UH OH Kris! Adam Lambert is asked which of the two groups of contestants he thinks he belongs in. Adam Lambert initially takes the side of the stage with Allison and Danny, but Ryan Seacrest moves Adam Lambert into the group with Matt and Kris.

The Bottom 3!

Matt Giraud, Kris Allen and Adam Lambert!!!! Idol fans on Twitter are freaking out at the news that Adam Lambert is in the BOTTOM 3! Quite an UPSET on American Idol tonight! No one would have predicted that Adam Lambert would EVER find himself in the Bottom list!

Natalie Cole is singing “Something’s Gotta Give“. Natalie Cole’s career spans almost 4 decades. Rumor being discussed on Twitter is that Natalie Cole is “sick” and needs a kidney. She definitely looks very very thin.

Taylor Hicks is singing “Seven Mile Breakdown” from his album “The Distance”. Taylor Hicks has lost a few pounds, and his hair is cut much shorter than before.

Joining Allison Iraheta and Danny Gokey in the TOP 4 is KRIS ALLEN!!!! That means Adam Lambert and Matt Giraud are the Bottom 2 tonight! WOW!

Idol “mentor” Jamie Foxx takes the stage singing the #1 song in America, “Blame It On The Alcohol“. THAT’S the #1 song in America right now? WHY? Yawn….

Ryan Seacrest is now asking Jamie about working with the Idol contestants and says the Top 5 are all “artists” and will have a great career regardless of who wins American Idol Season 8.

Tonight’s American Idol Rat Pack theme brings back songs from the 5 original Rat Packs: Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr, Peter Lawford, Dean Martin and Joey Bishop., with “surprise” mentor Jamie Foxx appearing tonight on American Idol.

“THIS IS AMERICAN IDOL!” – The American Idol Finale is just 3 weeks away! Standards from the Rat Pack Era! “Mystery Mentor” Jamie Foxx is introduced with each of the Top 5 not having any idea who the mentor would be this week.

First to sing is KRIS ALLEN singing “The Way You Look Tonight”. Slow, mellow and smooth. Kris looks great in his suit too. Very nice job Kris! Randy Jackson says “this is your best performance…, nice!” Kara DioGuardi says Kris has “set the technical standards for this night”, and that Kris is a “dark horse in this competition”. Paula Abdul called Kris a “charismatic crooner”. Simon Cowell didn’t think the performance was that great, calling the performance “wet”, and doesn’t believe Kris Allen can possibly win this Season 8 competition. Perhaps a bit risky for Allison to sing a love song at such a young age, but she’s doing a great job in this performance. Randy Jackson also loved Allison’s performance. Kara says Allison likely earned some new fans tonight, and if this performance “doesn’t land you in the finals, I don’t know what will”. Paula says the performance was alluring and very tender. Simon Cowell asks Allison if she thinks she can win the competition and she of course does, but Simon says he feels she could be in trouble tonight. Uh Oh Allison!!! Next up is MATT GIRAUD singing “My Funny Valentine”. Jamie Foxx suggested Matt “change the key” to Matt’s normal voice, and Jamie feels that would be all it would take for Matt to nail the song. Randy Jackson said it was “pitchy” in some places and said it was a “6 out of 10″. Kara commented that Matt “wasn’t emotionally connected to the song”. Paula says she “felt the connection by lowering the key” and that he did an “excellent job tonight”. Simon Cowell disagrees with Randy! Simon says it “was the only believable, authentic song tonight” – saying Matt’s performance was “absolutely brilliant”. Kara says she’s been missing the Rat Pack Swagger and that Danny has it! “Unbelievable!” Paula simply says Danny’s performance was “stellar”. Simon says Danny had a swagger and that he felt Danny “came out to prove a point” with a “superb arrangement”, and the performance was “outstanding”! Next week’s theme on American Idol (April 14, 2009) will be “Songs From The Movies“. The Top 7 American Idol finalists (Kris Allen, Anoop Desai, Matt Giraud, Danny Gokey, Allison Iraheta, Adam Lambert and Lil Rounds) will perform songs of the cinema under the guidance of director Quentin Tarantino in an “Idols at the Movies” (8:00-9:01 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) theme next week.

Tune in on Wednesday, April 15 (9:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) to find out if the judges use their save or if America sends another finalist home. Also, Season Three finalist Jennifer Hudson returns to the IDOL stage to perform her new single, “If This Isn’t Love,” and Miley Cyrus will sing “The Climb” from “Hannah Montana: The Movie.”

You may recall that Quentin Tarantino was a guest judge for Season 3’s Top 8 movie theme, so this should be a lot of fun.

Jillian Reynolds from American Idol Extra announced that next week’s theme will be Songs from the Movies.

American Idol will celebrate “50 Years of Motown“ on Wednesday, March 25th and Thursday, March 26th this week. Motown greats Berry Gordy and Smokey Robinson will appear together on American Idol on Wednesday’s Idol show, with Smokey Robinson returning to Thursday’s Idol show along with American Idol’s own Ruben Studdard.

The “Special Nights” of American Idol performances will begin on March 25 (8-10 p.m. ET LIVE/PT tape-delayed) where the Top 10 Finalists (Kris Allen, Anoop Desai, Matt Giraud, Danny Gokey, Allison Iraheta, Megan Joy, Adam Lambert, Scott MacIntyre, Lil Rounds and Michael Sarver) will celebrate and pay tribute to 50 Years of Motown and perform classic Motown songs.

I love me some Motown, don’t you?

On Special Night Thursday March 26 (8-10 p.m. ET LIVE/PT tape-delayed), American Idol’s Top 10 finalists will find out who got voted off American Idol this week or if the judges use their veto vote to save a finalist from elimination and being sent home.

Smokey Robinson will perform on Thursday’s Idol show, and past American Idol winner Ruben Studdard will return to the American Idol stage to perform his new song “Together”.

Tuesday’s American Idol time-slot has been reserved for a prime-time news conference with President Barack Obama, so there’s no American Idol on Tuesday this week.

Stay tuned for Wednesday’s celebration of 50 Years of Motown with Berry Gordy, Smokey Robinson and Ruben Studdard.
