American Idol News: Why Pia Toscano Got Voted Off American Idol

The internet is buzzing with talk and outrage about the possible reasons why Pia Toscano was voted off American Idol on Thursday night, April 7th. Hollywood stars, popular musicians, Idol fan blogs, past American Idol alum contestants and Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe are all weighing in on the shocking elimination of Pia Toscano. Why was Pia voted off Idol?

Was Pia Toscano a front runner, a sure bet to win Season 10 of American Idol in the first place? Apparently not, according to Nigel. Idol fans and Idol fan blogs have been saying that this season of Idol might be the best season yet, with extremely talented Idol contestants vying for the final win. Is this season the season for a country winner, ie Scotty McCreery or Lauren Alaina? Some say it is, others aren’t so sure.

A lot of online chatter about Pia’s shocking elimination concludes that the overall demographics of teenie-bopper teenage girls making up the majority of viewership for American Idol is at least one possible reason for the loss of Pia. Some Idol fan blogs and message boards have posted opinion that teenage girls watching Idol quickly pick their favorite, most often due to a crush on one or more of the guy contestants.

Once that crush is in place, these young Idol viewers text vote or vote online nonstop for two straight hours for their favorite male contestant, until no time is left to vote. The idea that teenage girls watching Idol would consider voting for a stunningly beautiful female contestant gifted with a spectacular singing voice, is considered by some to be highly unlikely.

It’s also quite interesting, if not telling, when Ryan Seacrest makes no announcement of how many votes came in as he so often does. Thursday night, Ryan said nothing of the total vote numbers. Online reports say American Idol ratings are down, with some reports saying 9% down and others claiming only 5%. After Pia Toscano was voted off, Ryan emphasized to America the importance for fans to Vote, Vote, Vote for their favorite(s).

Watching the final vote off of Pia on Thursday, it was clear the Idol judges were completely shocked, as were the rest of America. Twitter blew up with reactions about Pia being voted off, including Idol alums Chris Daughtry, Mandisa, David Cook, Stefano Langone, Naima Adedapo, Adam Lambert, Jennifer Hudson, David Archuleta, Melinda Doolittle, Katie Stevens, and many others wondering What the Hell Just Happened?!?!

“Pia performed her swan song, the Pretenders’ “I’ll Stand by You,” which ironically begins: “Oh, why you look so sad? / Tears are in your eyes.” And for the very first time, Pia sounded mediocre, but what would you expect from someone who had just gotten the emotional wind knocked out of her? “I couldn’t even breathe at that moment,” Pia later told me in a backstage interview, “so the fact that I could get anything out was a miracle.” Once Pia finished singing, the judges promptly marched onstage, and Haley signaled to the audience to start cheering. The crowd began chanting “Pia! Pia! Pia!” A row of young women screamed, “We love you, Pia!” And one guy shouted, “I’ll buy your record!”

“The most noticeable thing, though, was that the audience didn’t budge. Normally, people vacate the Idoldome at the earliest possible second in order to avoid the remote chance of a surprise Rebecca Black concert. But tonight, everyone stood standing in their seats, watching as the various judges and contestants attempted to comfort the season’s best vocalist”, says Popwatch

“I’m shocked. I’m angry. I don’t even know what to say,” J.Lo ranted, faulting the voters for failing to read her mind and discern which of the nine heavily praised finalists she loved better than others.

“I’m with Jennifer. We’re all in shock. I’m gutted. You’re one of the best singers in this. I’m never upset on this show, but this makes me mad. Really mad,” Randy Jackson told the tearful, crying Toscano. “I’m shocked. I’m angry. I don’t even know what to say,” J.Lo ranted, faulting the voters for failing to read her mind and discern which of the nine heavily praised finalists she loved better than others. MSNBC

To say that many American Idol watchers are angry is putting it mildly. Some are vowing to never watch Idol again. Some have the opinion that the voting system is somehow rigged.

“Well, if you’re reading about “American Idol” tonight the comments on Twitter, Facebook and just about anywhere you look aren’t pretty.

Some fans are vowing to never watch again and the curse words are flying. That’s because we might have witnessed one of the biggest upsets in the show’s history. Idol darling Pia Toscano was sent home tonight.” Wall Street Journal

On Friday, Nigel Lythgoe spoke with Lindsey Parker from Reality Rocks. In the interview, Nigel says Pia Toscano wasn’t expected to be the Idol finale winner anyway. The fact that this season of Idol has some amazingly talented artists should suggest to American Idol voters that NO ONE IS SAFE and ANYONE CAN HOME AT ANY TIME.

“I know the [voting] results, so I know she was never a frontrunner…The fact of the matter is, it appears that Pia didn’t connect with the audience the way we maybe think she did.”

“This is going to happen every week now, because the talent is so strong.”

Addressing fan feedback that maybe changed need to be made to the elimination process to keep the “wrong” person from going home, Nigel says Idol will never limit votes BUT “Maybe if we change the rules next season, maybe do the same thing we do on ‘So You Think You Can Dance’….so that America votes for the bottom three, and then the judges decide who goes home….I think that will be thought about.”

Of course, Nigel realizes that any ideas of changing the voting and elimination process would have to be discussed with the show’s creator, Simon Fuller. “It’s not my format”, says Nigel.

Tonight we find out who got kicked off American Idol and won’t be joining the Top 10 finalists on the summer tour. Or, maybe the Idol judges will use their one save vote on the contestant who must sing for their life. American Idol big shot Nigel announced a “shocking” results show tonight, so we’ll soon see how shocking it really turns out to be, or the lack thereof. Idol fans have been curious to see which Idol contestant from season 10 the judges would choose to use their save vote on, and maybe just maybe, tonight will be the night. Or not.

Motown video celebration with the idol performances from last night and judges comments. The Idol judges (Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson) are introduced to the stage and take their seats, and Ryan Seacrest follows. 30 Million votes were received after last night’s show. Ryan claims the results tonight “may shock you”.

The Top 11 Idol finalists are introduced to center stage. Video clip of Marc Anthony (Jennifer Lopez’ husband) discussing the tutoring of the finalists prior to their performances last night.

The Top 11 group song “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”…

Stevie Wonder is in the house!!! Stevie’s singing “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours”. Stevie Wonder goes into a surprise “Happy Birthday” song for Steven Tyler, including a birthday cake brought onstage. That was cool!

Sugarland and past American Idol Jennifer Hudson are scheduled to perform tonight. Yeah! The lame Ford commercial video nonsense is shown.

Looking for the bottom 3, says Ryan. Lauren Alaina, Pia Toscano and Scotty McCreery are brought center stage. All three are SAFE! All three will be going on the 2011 Idol LIVE Summer Tour!

Sugarland performs their hit song “Stuck Like Glue”. Love love love Sugarland…

Video banter between the Top 11 Idols about if pro wrestling is fake or not, and discussing their favorite wrestling stars on tv. Lame.

James Durbin and Paul McDonald are brought center stage. Both are NOT safe tonight! Ryan says “I mean, you’re REALLY not safe tonight”. Stage doors open to find wrestling giant Hulk Hogan and both Paul McDonald and James Durbin are shocked, mouths dropped to the floor in shock. Hulk Hogan announces to the two stunned Idols that they’re both SAFE and going on the summer tour!

Jacob Lusk, Stefano Langone and Thia Megia are brought center stage. Jacob is safe and going on the Idol tour! Thia is in the Bottom 3 tonight. Stefano is also in the Bottom three.

Naima Adedapo, Haley Reinhart and Casey Abrams are brought center stage. Naima is shocked to hear that she’s safe and going on tour. Either Casey or Haley is in the bottom three. Casey Abrams is in the bottom 3 tonight, and Haley Reinhart is safe and going on to compete in the Top 10.

The Bottom 3 Idol contestants are Casey Abrams, Thia Megia and Stefano Langone. Who among these three will be eliminated and sent home or saved with the judges vote tonight?

Jennifer Hudson sings “Where You At”. Love love love Jennifer Hudson.

Thia Megia is SAFE and going on to compete in the Top 10 and is going on the summer tour.

The Idol Bottom 2 are Casey Abrams and Stefano Langone. Shocking results tonight?

“The person with the lowest number of votes and in danger of leaving tonight is” Casey Abrams. Stefano Langone is SAFE! Casey must sing for his life and hope the judges will use their save vote to keep him in the competition, or be voted off tonight.

Casey starts singing his song but Randy Jackson stopped him shortly after starting his song, and Randy and Steven Tyler together announce that they don’t need to hear him sing and they’re using the save vote on Casey Abrams tonight! Casey Abrams is SAFE! The Judges use the save vote with Casey!

The Top 11 are still the Top 11. No one got voted off tonight – they are all safe!!! All 11 Idol finalists will go on tour this summer, not just a Top 10. Two contestants will be voted off next week.

This is American Idol’s results show 3/10/11! Who will be kicked off American Idol tonight? Idol judges make their grand entrance and in come the Top 13 Idol contestants. Ryan Seacrest announces that Diddy Dirty Money and Adam Lambert will perform on tonight’s elimination show. 30 million votes came in. Casey Abrams is missing from the show, is sick and in the hospital, and the contestants all waved at Casey as prompted by Ryan.

The Idol Mansion video is shown, where all the contestants stay together throughout the Season 10 competition.

Group Michael Jackson song medley by the Top 13! This is HOT!

Ford music video “The World” is shown.

Premiere of Red Riding Hood movie with the Top 13 in attendance, getting photo opp’s with Hollywood stars like leading lady Amanda Seyfried who starred in Red Riding Hood.

Ryan says he’s looking for the bottom three tonight. Ryan asks Jacob Lusk, Karen Rodriguez and Stefano Langone to take center stage. After reviewing the judges comments from last night’s performances for each contestant, Ryan says Jacob and Stefano are both safe but Karen is in the bottom 3 and in danger of being voted off tonight.

Adam Lambert sings an unplugged version of his self-written song “Aftermath”. Not what we’ve gotten used to hearing from Adam, and I’m not really caring much for this more mellow version, although I’m a big fan of Adam.

Ryan asks Lauren Alaina, Haley Reinhart and Ashthon Jones to center stage. Lauren is safe and returns to her seat, crying and relieved after saying she watched her performance again and said it “was bad”. Ashthon is in the bottom 3, as is Haley.

All the other Idol Top 13 contestants still sitting on the couch are all SAFE!

The bottom three contestants are Karen, Ashthon and Haley. Will the judges use their one vote to save one of these girls? Doubtful this early into the competition.

Diddy Dirty Money performs “Coming Home”. Some of the Diddy Dirty Money ” Coming Home Tour” cities are mentioned after Sean gives the Top 12 advice to stay strong and true to their dreams.

Karen Rodriguez is SAFE! The Bottom Two are Haley and Ashthon. Haley is SAFE!

Ashthon must sing with hopes of receiving the judges save vote, or Ashthon Jones is going home. She chooses to sing Diana Ross again, “When You Tell Me That You Love Me”.

Ashthon Jones is voted off American Idol tonight and is kicked off the show. David Cook’s boot song “Don’t You Forget About Me” is played while showing video of Ashthon’s run on the show and audition phase.

This is American Idol! Two Idol contestants will be eliminated tonight after last night’s Elvis themed performances that left some of the top idols feeling safe and secure, and others not so much. We’re LIVE with the results!

Video clip of Michael Lynche being saved by the judges and the excitement in the audience. Video clip of the Idols in Las Vegas, Adam Lambert telling contestants to “wake up”, and judges comments about last night’s performances. “Two idols will see their dreams come to a close” says Ryan. Double elimination tonight!

Over 34 million votes came in, the most for this season, says Ryan. Tonight brings a “dramatic elimination” since the judges already used the save vote on Michael. Ryan introduces the judges and says it’s going be a difficult night for the contestants. Ruh roh.

Group performance singing an Elvis medley. Typical lip-sync, nothing special.

“Going Green” Ford Commercial. zzzzz. The votes are in.

Casey, Andrew and Aaron take center stage. Ryan repeats the judges critique of their Elvis performances. “Andrew, it’s the end of the road” says Ryan. Andrew Garcia is voted off. Boom. Wow that happened fast! Casey and Aaron are both safe! Andrew sings his exit song, pitchy as usual.

Idol Gives Back is next week. Info can be found at www.idolgivesback.org. Kara DioGuardi and Elliott Yamin video of Angola Africa to help displaced families with bed nets and information about protecting children from malaria-diseased insects. Many celebrity performers are confirmed for the special program next week.

Brooke White and Justin Gaston sing. Twitter reaction to this performance are mixed. “Debacle”, “they suck” are the nicest terms so far. Ryan says it’s available on iTunes if you care, haha.

Several online reports say Adam was brought on to mentor because his sales are not doing well and the hope is his appearance on the show last night and tonight will boost his sales… erm, okay. Adam brought laser lights but Twitter peeps say it didn’t help him. Whatever.

Tim Urban is sent back to safety! WTH?!!!! Michael Lynche and Katie Stevens are in the Bottom Two!!!

Katie Stevens is voted off tonight. Michael Lynche is safe! Katie sings “Let It Be” as her exit song from the competition. Video of Katie’s time on the show is shown as the Idol Exit Song “Leave Right Now” plays in the background.

This is American Idol! Last night’s Lennon/McCartney theme brought Idol fans some good performances, for a change. We’re about to find out who amongst the Top 9 will be eliminated from American Idol tonight. Here we go!

Video clips of last night’s performances by the Top 9 are shown, plus clips of comments and criticism from the Idol judges. Ryan says the Top 9 will become the Top 8, unless the judges choose to use the save vote. (Don’t hold your breath) Ryan says we’re in for some “shocking results tonight”, ruh roh! The Idol Gives Back special program starts in two weeks; more info can be found at idolgivesback.org. Special guest performances tonight include Rihanna, Jason Derulo and David Archuleta.

The Top 9 Group Performance is a Lennon/McCartney medley. Lip-synched of course, but ya gotta love Lennon and McCartney songs regardless.

Ford Commercial to the song “Will it go round in circles”. The votes are in.

Ryan has Siobhan stand and has her stand in the center of the stage. Crystal stands and she is asked to join Siobhan. Katie stands and is asked to join Crystal and Siobhan. Nerves!!!

The American Idol Top 9 contestants have their work cut out for them with next week’s Lennon/McCartney Beatles songs theme. Season 9 hasn’t been a fan favorite thus far, having been deemed the worst season since the show began.

Hopefully the top nine finalists will perform their chosen songs like it could be their last time on stage – because someone is going to be voted off next week and sent packin’. Yes Tim, it’s past time for you to be shown the door and sent home.

Idol’s final nine contestants will choose songs from the John Lennon/Paul McCartney songbook. This is the third season in the history of Idol that contestants have access to songs by Lennon and McCartney – excluding Beatles songs written and owned by George Harrison and his estate.

Rihanna will appear on Idol’s elimination results show to perform her new single “Te Amo”.

America voted off Didi Benami last night, leaving the remaining top 9 contestants to sing for their lives in America’s “favorite” singing competition, despite the fact that American Idol ratings are dropping steadily.

Perhaps Ryan Seacrest and Simon Cowell could finally stop the time-wasting bantering back and forth, and get on with the show. Good “time fillers” you’re not.

Last night’s performances had some good surprises, good vocals, but nothing spectacular. Predictions of who will be voted off Idol tonight vary – some say it’s time for Tim to go home. Ya think? Others feel Didi will be voted off, while some believe Andrew Garcia has overstayed his welcome. We’re about to find out!

This is American Idol! Video of “Clash of the Titans” is being played as clips of last night’s performances and judges criticisms are shown. Ryan Seacrest takes the stage. The votes are in and someone is in danger of elimination tonight, says Ryan, unless the judges use the Save. The judges and Top 10 are introduced.

Ruben Studdard (the velvet teddy bear) takes the Idol stage to sing. Ruben has lost weight! He’s a “vegan” and working out. Ruben and Clay Aiken are going on tour together soon.

Ford commercial to “Kung Fu Fighting” with the top ten making karate moves is played. Silly stuff. Ryan teases Mike Lynche about the ponytail under his ball cap. Ryan chats with Crystal and Andrew about their performance last night. Ryan and Andrew’s mom (in the audience) talk and “mom” says Andrew needs to just “be himself, cuz momma raised him right”.

American Idol Top 10 Theme R&B Soul Week Song List

American Idol’s Top 10 contestants will either enjoy or destroy this week’s theme, which is R&B soul songs. R&B is one my favorite music genres, so heaven help the remaining season 9 contestant(s) that choose the wrong song or make our ears bleed (again).

Considering how most, if not all, the fan sites have said that this season’s collection of “performers” has made this the worst season since American Idol began, it’s a shame that one or more contestants won’t be singing the Idol exit song Leave Right Now by Will Young – because that’s what we’re all thinking.

Usher will mentor the top ten this week, and will hopefully offer the contestants some much needed advice, direction and criticism of their song choice and overall performance. Siobhan, stop screaming. Crystal, would you please finally….let loose and show us your vocal range?

Will Young’s “Leave Right Now” is the name of the American Idol elimination song at the end of American Idol 9 when a contestant is kicked off the show. Some refer to this popular song as the “boot” song, elimination song or exit song. With the bad reviews season 9 has been receiving thus far, horrible singing and poor song choice by many contestants, there is at least a lot of interest in Will Young’s song.

Who Should Be Voted Off American Idol Tonight?

American Idol will announce tonight who got voted off of Season 9, reducing the Top 11 down to the Top 10. Finally. Reading a number of American Idol fan blogs, it’s obvious that I’m not the only one who feels that Season 9 is the worst season in the history of this show.

Sure sure, there are some talented people who made it this far into the competition. Emphasis on the word some, which should probably be changed to a “couple” of Idol contestants who can consistently sing and sing well.

Wouldn’t it be great if American Idol producers and big-shots would make the oh-so-awesome decision to go straight for the jugular and allow us to vote for who will be the Top 4 contestants and get this show on the road? Everyone else can just go home. I’d vote for that decision like yesterday, and so would MJ.

Speaking of yesterday and last night’s performances on Idol, what is it with Siobhan Magnus and all that horrendous screaming? The first time she screamed her bloodcurdling, ear bleeding inducing scream that makes fingernails on a chalkboard seem tame in comparison, three weeks in a row of screaming is just too much. Siobhan, please stop the screaming. You proved you can scream already, so now just stop.

Not only were most of last night’s performances a complete trainwreck, most of the “top” contestants should have received a pink slip and the producers plan a do-over for the entire season. That’s why Simon Cowell and the other decision makers should fast-forward this farce, choose the best four, let America vote for who they want as the winner and be done with it.

Simon can then go off into the sunset and start focusing more of his attention on the X Factor.

So-so talent in this singing competition, especially now that we’re at this stage of the game, makes the show dull and boring. That’s putting it mildly.

Paige Miles and Andrew Garcia will most likely find themselves in the Bottom Two. Deservedly so. If I had to make a prediction of who should be voted off tonight and sent packing, I’d have to go with Andrew.

I won’t be surprised at all if Tim Urban is included in the Bottom Three. Sliding across the stage, with a lackluster singing ability, won’t keep ya in this competition Tim. Sorry.

Of course, I have my personal favorite(s), but I’m not going to tell you who he/she is.

Of those who should not be voted off and allowed to stay around awhile longer are Didi Benami, Casey James, Michael Lynch, Crystal Bowersox, Lee DeWyze and Siobhan Magnus (if she stops screaming and causing my ears to bleed!).

Everyone else can go home.
