Dates and locations of American Idol Auditions for Season 10 have been announced, plus news that American Idol has decided to allow 15-year-old’s to enter the competition. Ugh. The previous minimum eligible age requirement was 16. The younger Idol contestants over the years have been some of the worst, in need of a lot of vocal training and experience to appeal to Idol fans around the world.

“A lot of young, talented people are now seeking careers and representation before they turn 16,” said Cecile Frot-Coutaz, executive producer of American Idol. “Lowering the age limit allows us to tap into this talent pool.” Yeah, whatever.

Many American Idol blogs feel the same as I do – Idol bigwigs should have increased the age to 18 years old rather than lower the age, and allowed contestants up to the age of 30 instead of just 28. The rules now are contestants can be between the ages of 15 to 28 years old, which the youngins will be happy about. The rest of us, not so much.

Auditions dates and locations have been released, along with the forms and permissions each Idol contestant must fill out and bring with them to the auditions in their city of choice. Auditions for Season 10 are in just 6 cities vs. the typical 7 venue locations, which starts on Saturday, July 17.

Understandable speculation about the future of this once popular television reality show say Idol will be cancelled, especially since Simon Cowell has left the show. Time will tell, but we can hear the tick, tick, ticking of the time bomb waiting to explode into the stratosphere at any time.

News of who will be the new judge replacing Simon Cowell have yet to be announced.

Boston Auditions: Wristbands will be distributed from 7:00 AM on Friday, June 12 until 8:00 AM on Sunday, June 14. Auditioners will not be permitted to camp out. Once auditioners obtain their wristbands, they will be asked to return to Gillette Stadium by 5:00 AM on Sunday, June 14.

Audition Age Requirements: Auditions are open to men and women 16-28 years of age as of June 12, 2009, who are eligible to work in the U.S.
