Dates and locations of American Idol Auditions for Season 10 have been announced, plus news that American Idol has decided to allow 15-year-old’s to enter the competition. Ugh. The previous minimum eligible age requirement was 16. The younger Idol contestants over the years have been some of the worst, in need of a lot of vocal training and experience to appeal to Idol fans around the world.
“A lot of young, talented people are now seeking careers and representation before they turn 16,” said Cecile Frot-Coutaz, executive producer of American Idol. “Lowering the age limit allows us to tap into this talent pool.” Yeah, whatever.
Many American Idol blogs feel the same as I do – Idol bigwigs should have increased the age to 18 years old rather than lower the age, and allowed contestants up to the age of 30 instead of just 28. The rules now are contestants can be between the ages of 15 to 28 years old, which the youngins will be happy about. The rest of us, not so much.
