Last night’s dual theme of song performances by the Top 4 brought some great, memorable moments. The competition is really heating up, but the Top 4 are about to be reduced to the Top 3 tonight, and then the remaining finalists take off for their home visits. Who is getting the boot tonight remains to be seen, but considering how close we are to the finale, any one of the finalists could be going home. Tonight could potentially present another shocking elimination; it’s happened before with Pia Toscano.

James has been thought to be one of the most popular contestants, and it has seemed as though the judges were trying at times to influence America to vote for James. James received the lowest number of votes this week. Wow. Unbelievable.

The Idol judges are shocked, shaking their heads in disbelief. Ryan speaks with James about the results; he’s choking up and tears are streaming down his face. James Durbin closes the show tonight singing “Maybe I’m Amazed”, with tears pouring down his disappointed face.

The 2011 American Idol LIVE Tour dates, locations, and admission costs for tickets to the Top 11 American Idol Summer Tour have been announced. The Idol summer tour begins on July 6th in West Valley City in Utah and ends on September 10 in Rochester in New York. You’d have to be living under a rock not to have heard about The Voice on NBC, which premiered this past Tuesday, with a repeat performance shown on Wednesday night. American Idol just might have some strong competition for ratings and viewership now that fans have had an opportunity to watch The Voice, and seen how refreshing the new singing show is.

As an avid fan of American Idol, beginning with Kelly Clarkson’s spectacular win with that magnificent voice of hers, as well as the many other past American Idol contestants who have gone on to do great things in their chosen music career, I’m hooked on The Voice. What a great show NBC has created, masterfully chosen musician coaches (not judges, like on Idol), and the brilliant concept of having singers perform blind auditions where each singer is heard but not seen. Genius!

The Voice coaches include mega-star Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton (a cutie-pie) and Maroon Five’s Adam Levine. Carson Daly serves as host of the show. NBC announced today that country star Reba McEntire, Sia (Furler), Monica, and music producer Adam Blackstone will be joining The Voice as advisers, lending their vast knowledge, experience and talents to the mix.

These advisers will be assisting the four coaches on The Voice show during the “Battles” phase in the competition, to help improve the contestants singing abilities and improve their chances of winning the competition. Christina Aguilera will be teaming up with singer/songwriter Sia, Adam Levine with Maroon 5 Music Director Blackstone, Cee Lo Green with singer Monica, and Blake Shelton with veteran singer Reba.

“The Voice” blind auditions premiered on Tuesday to big ratings, averaging 11.8 million viewers and a 5.1 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic. The Wednesday repeat encore of the new NBC series garnered 6 million viewers on Wednesday. Not too shabby! Choosing a favorite team of contestants is going to be challenging, and fans of the show may find they’re rooting for more than one team.

Will it be Team Xtina? Team Cee Lo? Team Blake or Team Adam? So far, each of the teams have some incredibly talented singers, but I’m holding out on the decision of which team to rally around until all of the contestants are selected into their various teams. Fans of NBC’s The Voice show will want to follow along with all the news and updates about their favorite contestants and coaches, so be sure to follow The Voice Facebook fan page and follow The Voice on Twitter to root for your favorite teams and contestants.

The show’s unique format features three stages of competition. The first phase begins with the blind auditions, then it moves into a battle phase, and then live performance shows. During the blind audition phase, singers sing their song with the judges coaches backs turned, so only the singers voice is heard and no pre-judgements can be made based on physical appearance at all. Brilliant!!!

During these blind auditions, if a coach is impressed with the vocal ability he or she is hearing, pushing a button in front of their chair causes the chair to swivel around so the coach can then be face to face with the contestant. Pushing the button also indicates the coach has selected the contestant to be on his or her team of competitors.

If more than one coach pushes the button and their chair turns around to see the contestant, thereby also selecting the singer, the power shifts to the contestant. The contestant must then choose which coach he or she wants to work with throughout the competition. Any contestant who is not selected by at least one coach pushing their button before the singer is finished with their song is automatically eliminated from the competition.

Once the final teams are chosen, the battle begins. The Voice coaches will mentor the contestants and make them over, ultimately transforming them into stars in the music industry. To help them decide who they want to advance, the coaches will pit two of their own team members against each other to sing the same song in front of a studio audience. Based on the individual performances, the coaches must pick who they want to continue coaching and who will be sent home.

In the final live performance phase of the competition, the top contestants from each team will compete against each other during a live broadcast. The television audience will vote to select who will move on from each team and who will be eliminated. Finally, each coach will have their absolute best contestant left standing to compete in the finale. From these four, one will be named “The Voice” and will receive the grand prize of a life-altering recording contract.

I can’t wait to watch and see how The Voice tv show turns out throughout the competition series and who fans will choose as their favorite(s). Will The Voice become the new and improved American Idol???

The Carole King songs theme from last night on American Idol brought some real winning performances, but one of the Top 6 idol contestants will get the boot tonight. Who is going home? Making predictions of who is most likely to get voted off tonight have been proven wrong time after time, so there’s no point in even attempting a wild guess. Whoever received the least number of votes is who goes home.

This is American Idol! The Idol judges take the stage, and wow wow wow does Jennifer Lopez look HOT in that red dress! Ryan Seacrest says that “a lot of fans are going to be disappointed with tonight’s results”. Ruh roh! The Top 6 are introduced to the stage and take their seats on the couch. Steven Tyler made the covers of two magazines, Rolling Stone and People Magazine, says Ryan. Steven laughs it off saying when he’s “bad he’s really bad but when he’s good he’s even better.”

The Top 6 Idol sing a medley of Carole King hits for the group songs. Bruno Mars and Crystal Bowersox will appear on Idol tonight, which should be great fun. Ryan says last night’s performances can be downloaded on iTunes, if you’re interested. Ford commercial “Our House” is shown with the six finalists.

Tickets for the American Idol Summer Tour go on sale May 13, says Ryan.

Ryan will call out each of the Top 6 in random order, to narrow it down to who are the in the bottom and who gets voted off. Ryan calls Haley Reinhart center stage, and clips are shown of her performances throughout the competition and the judges critiques. In the video clip, mentor Jimmy says if Haley goes home tonight it’s because she doesn’t know who she is musically. Haley and the judges (especially Randy) disagree with that assessment. Haley is SAFE!

Scotty McCreery is next, and clips of his performances are shown and judges comments. Mentor Jimmy says says he worries sometimes that Scotty is so subtle that it may hurt him at some point with Idol fans wanting the big notes. oooh, Ryan sends Scotty back to the couch without saying if he’s safe or in the bottom. Ruh roh!

Lauren Alaina is called center stage, video clips of her performances are shown. Lauren says she’s been trying to work on confidence and the negatives (judges critiques), and she is sent back to the couch just like Scotty. Is Scotty or Lauren getting voted off tonight?

Casey Abrams is up next, with his performances shown. Mentor Jimmy says he was disappointed in Casey’s performance last night and adds “Casey has got to realize that the family dog does not vote on American Idol”, in reference to Casey’s incessant growling. Casey is also sent back to the couch to wait it out.

James Durbin is called center stage; video clips of his performances are shown and the judges comments. Jimmy says James is a great singer and he could win this thing. James is SAFE!

Jacob Lusk is next, with his performance videos shown. Jimmy was unimpressed with Jacob’s outfit choice from last night, thinking Jacob entered the wrong dressing room by mistake last night. Jimmy says that Jacob “is on banana peel status”. Ryan calls the rest of the finalists center stage with Jacob. Lauren Alaina is SAFE!

Last night’s 21st Century performances by the Top 7 were pretty darn good, but one of the contestants is getting the boot tonight. Online polls and predictions of who will be voted off each week have been notoriously wrong for weeks, so there’s no point in even attempting to predict tonight’s results. Some American Idol watchers feel it’s past the time for Stefano Langone to go home, and IF Dial Idol predictions are correct this time around, they may get their wish. But, Dial Idol hasn’t exactly been right on the money for some time now. According to DI, Stefano received the lowest number of votes and is most likely the contestant being sent home tonight. We’ll see about that when Ryan makes the announcement.

This is American Idol! The judges make their entrance, followed by Ryan Seacrest. Ryan says tonight is going to be “another difficult elimination”. The Top 7 will soon become the Top 6, as the contestants are introduced. Over 52 million votes came in last night, says Ryan. Katy Perry will be singing tonight, and David Cook will debut his latest single.

“Hey Soul Sister” by Train is being sung by Haley Reinhart, Lauren Alaina, Jacob Lusk and Stefano Langone. Nah, this group doesn’t really sound good together. Harmony is lacking.

The Ford commercial video “World” is played.

“Viva La Vida” by Cold Play is sung by Casey Abrams, Scotty McCreery and James Durbin. The guys at least sound better harmony-wise than the other group song did.

Casey is asked to stand up. Jacob also stands as requested. Both of these guys sounded very good last night, and the judges liked their performances. Jacob explains the music track mishap when he first began singing and how he just kept going. Casey is SAFE! Jacob is in the Bottom 3 tonight.

David Cook takes the stage singing his new single “The Last Goodbye” from his new album of the same name.

The Top 7 were treated to some fun activities during the week (when not rehearsing) like bowling, going to a Dodgers game, spa treatments, etc. Relaxation time for the contestants.

Jacob Lusk and Stefano Langone are center stage listening to the judges critiques of their performances and how far they’ve both come in the competition. They both have the summer tour and the finale to participate in, so no matter what happens, they have a future ahead of them in the music business.

Jacob Lusk is SAFE and Stefano Langone is voted off American Idol! Stefano closes the show singing “Lately”.

Last night’s Idol performances of Songs From The Movies was quite entertaining, but as we all know, one of the Top 8 will be voted off American Idol tonight and sent home. After last week’s shocking elimination of Pia Toscano, predicting who will get the boot is really a waste of time. Any one of the Top 8 contestants could go home tonight, as who is safe and who gets sent home all depends on who got the most and least number of votes.

The Idol judges are introduced to the stage, followed by Ryan Seacrest. Over 53 Million votes came in last night. Rihanna is scheduled to perform tonight, and Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson will perform their duet song “Don’t You Wanna Stay”.

Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina perform Lady Antebellum’s song “American Honey”. Beautiful song, great duet performance.

Each of the Idol’s are loaded up with makeup to look like zombies for the Ford commercial, then the finished Ford video is shown.

Haley Reinhart and Casey Abrams sing their duet song “Moaning”. Good job! The judges all agree that this duet performance was incredible.

Many American Idol fans were not only shocked at the elimination of Pia Toscano last Thursday, but TMZ reports that American Idol and FOX bigwigs are being inundated with demands to bring back Pia and give Stefano Langone the boot.

According to TMZ “spies”, ‘hundreds of fans have been begging FOX to recognized the injustice of kicking Pia off the show, and bend the rules. It appears these fans are organized, because they come with a singular message — Stefano has no chance of winning and therefore he should be removed now as a sacrificial lamb so Pia can come back.’

“We’re told the fans have even reached out to Stefano … pleading with him to remove himself from the competition”, says TMZ. It’s worth a shot, I suppose, but the chances of American Idol bringing Pia back even if Stefano opts out of the show is likely slim to none. American Idol reported that Pia Toscano was voted off Idol because she received the fewest number of votes from fans and therefore was sent home.

It would be interesting to at least know the total number of votes received, as Ryan Seacrest often gives at the beginning of the results show on Thursday nights. The lack of voter number totals being mentioned during the show gives the implication that people are just not voting, perhaps assuming others will text or vote online for their favorite(s) instead and can slack off themselves. How Pia Toscano’s elimination from the show will or won’t affect the show’s ratings and viewer numbers remains to be seen, but many Pia fans have said they’re fed up and won’t watch Idol anymore.

On Wednesday night, 4/13/11, the American Idol Top 8 finalists (Casey Abrams, Lauren Alaina, James Durbin, Stefano Langone, Jacob Lusk, Scotty McCreery, Paul McDonald and Haley Reinhart) will sing “Songs From the Movies” as this week’s theme. Then on Thursday night, 4/14/11, the live results show will reveal which of the Top 8 received the lowest number of votes and will be voted off.

Performances on Thursday night include Grammy Award-winning pop star Rihanna, and past American Idol Season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson with country music star Jason Aldean performing their #1 Billboard Country Singles duet song “Don’t You Wanna Stay” from Jason’s My Kinda Party album.

The internet is buzzing with talk and outrage about the possible reasons why Pia Toscano was voted off American Idol on Thursday night, April 7th. Hollywood stars, popular musicians, Idol fan blogs, past American Idol alum contestants and Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe are all weighing in on the shocking elimination of Pia Toscano. Why was Pia voted off Idol?

Was Pia Toscano a front runner, a sure bet to win Season 10 of American Idol in the first place? Apparently not, according to Nigel. Idol fans and Idol fan blogs have been saying that this season of Idol might be the best season yet, with extremely talented Idol contestants vying for the final win. Is this season the season for a country winner, ie Scotty McCreery or Lauren Alaina? Some say it is, others aren’t so sure.

A lot of online chatter about Pia’s shocking elimination concludes that the overall demographics of teenie-bopper teenage girls making up the majority of viewership for American Idol is at least one possible reason for the loss of Pia. Some Idol fan blogs and message boards have posted opinion that teenage girls watching Idol quickly pick their favorite, most often due to a crush on one or more of the guy contestants.

Once that crush is in place, these young Idol viewers text vote or vote online nonstop for two straight hours for their favorite male contestant, until no time is left to vote. The idea that teenage girls watching Idol would consider voting for a stunningly beautiful female contestant gifted with a spectacular singing voice, is considered by some to be highly unlikely.

It’s also quite interesting, if not telling, when Ryan Seacrest makes no announcement of how many votes came in as he so often does. Thursday night, Ryan said nothing of the total vote numbers. Online reports say American Idol ratings are down, with some reports saying 9% down and others claiming only 5%. After Pia Toscano was voted off, Ryan emphasized to America the importance for fans to Vote, Vote, Vote for their favorite(s).

Watching the final vote off of Pia on Thursday, it was clear the Idol judges were completely shocked, as were the rest of America. Twitter blew up with reactions about Pia being voted off, including Idol alums Chris Daughtry, Mandisa, David Cook, Stefano Langone, Naima Adedapo, Adam Lambert, Jennifer Hudson, David Archuleta, Melinda Doolittle, Katie Stevens, and many others wondering What the Hell Just Happened?!?!

“Pia performed her swan song, the Pretenders’ “I’ll Stand by You,” which ironically begins: “Oh, why you look so sad? / Tears are in your eyes.” And for the very first time, Pia sounded mediocre, but what would you expect from someone who had just gotten the emotional wind knocked out of her? “I couldn’t even breathe at that moment,” Pia later told me in a backstage interview, “so the fact that I could get anything out was a miracle.” Once Pia finished singing, the judges promptly marched onstage, and Haley signaled to the audience to start cheering. The crowd began chanting “Pia! Pia! Pia!” A row of young women screamed, “We love you, Pia!” And one guy shouted, “I’ll buy your record!”

“The most noticeable thing, though, was that the audience didn’t budge. Normally, people vacate the Idoldome at the earliest possible second in order to avoid the remote chance of a surprise Rebecca Black concert. But tonight, everyone stood standing in their seats, watching as the various judges and contestants attempted to comfort the season’s best vocalist”, says Popwatch

“I’m shocked. I’m angry. I don’t even know what to say,” J.Lo ranted, faulting the voters for failing to read her mind and discern which of the nine heavily praised finalists she loved better than others.

“I’m with Jennifer. We’re all in shock. I’m gutted. You’re one of the best singers in this. I’m never upset on this show, but this makes me mad. Really mad,” Randy Jackson told the tearful, crying Toscano. “I’m shocked. I’m angry. I don’t even know what to say,” J.Lo ranted, faulting the voters for failing to read her mind and discern which of the nine heavily praised finalists she loved better than others. MSNBC

To say that many American Idol watchers are angry is putting it mildly. Some are vowing to never watch Idol again. Some have the opinion that the voting system is somehow rigged.

On Friday, Nigel Lythgoe spoke with Lindsey Parker from Reality Rocks. In the interview, Nigel says Pia Toscano wasn’t expected to be the Idol finale winner anyway. The fact that this season of Idol has some amazingly talented artists should suggest to American Idol voters that NO ONE IS SAFE and ANYONE CAN HOME AT ANY TIME.

“I know the [voting] results, so I know she was never a frontrunner…The fact of the matter is, it appears that Pia didn’t connect with the audience the way we maybe think she did.”

“This is going to happen every week now, because the talent is so strong.”

Addressing fan feedback that maybe changed need to be made to the elimination process to keep the “wrong” person from going home, Nigel says Idol will never limit votes BUT “Maybe if we change the rules next season, maybe do the same thing we do on ‘So You Think You Can Dance’….so that America votes for the bottom three, and then the judges decide who goes home….I think that will be thought about.”

Of course, Nigel realizes that any ideas of changing the voting and elimination process would have to be discussed with the show’s creator, Simon Fuller. “It’s not my format”, says Nigel.

Last night’s Idol Rock n Roll Hall of Fame performances with the Top 9 had some great moments, and some not-so-great moments. Predictions of who could be voted off tonight on American Idol seem to favor Stefano Langone as the likely person to get the boot, or possibly Jacob Lusk. Why would Jacob be sent home?

Not because of Jacob’s song choice or performance last night, but solely due to the horrific comment he made after finishing his performance. It didn’t sit well at all with many American Idol blogs and Idol fans. Whether his negative comment will send Jacob home tonight remains to be seen.  Season 10 has some amazingly talented singers and performers, but someone has got to go. Who will it be? Stefano? Jacob? Paul?

“This is American Idol!” Ryan says tonight COULD be a “shocking” elimination. The Top 9 perform a medley of Rock and Roll songs as the group performance. “I Love Rock and Roll”; “My Baby Just Wrote Me a Letter”; “Sweet Home Alabama”. The group performances are always so lame, but we just have to grin and bear it. The Ford commercial with the Top 9 is shown.

Russell Brand video clip is shown of him showing up as a surprise to help the contestants practice stage presence, moving around the stage prior to their performances last night. Russell is a funny guy, silliness all around.

Past American Idol contestant from Season 4 Constantine Mouralis is here singing “Unchained Melody”. Very different than the original (better) version. Since when is this song a rock song anyway? The audience seems to like it but I’m not feelin’ it. Constantine is on the road, doing a lot of “rock of ages” shows and he’s a new father.

Video clip showing Gwen Stefani helping the female contestants choose their outfits for last night. Oh boy, clothes shopping with Gwen, out of her own closet no less.

PIA TOSCANO IS VOTED OFF AMERICAN IDOL TONIGHT!!!! WTH???!!!! The audience is booing, everyone is in shock. Jennifer Lopez is crying, Randy is shocked and says Pia is one the best singers in the competition, and Steven Tyler agrees. Randy says “this makes me mad”.

The judges all implore Idol fans that if you want your favorite to stick around, you’ve Got to VOTE!!!! Pia Toscano is kicked off American Idol! What the Hell?! The audience is furious, judges are furious. This is definitely a Shocking elimination tonight!

What a beautiful song, sung beautifully and in perfect harmony. Great performance! I’d definitely download that performance. Great match-up of these two singers performing this song together.

Grammy Award winner Fantasia sings “Collard Greens & Cornbread” from her Back To Me album. Nice song! The song title sounded a little silly but I actually like it! I’m downloading this song! Nice!

Haley Reinhart, Pia Toscano and Thia Megia sing Katy Perry’s song “Teenage Dream“. I do like that song too! The three girls stand together onstage to see who is safe and who is not. Pia Toscano is Safe! Haley Reinhart is safe and Thia Megia is in the Bottom 3, along with Naima Adedapo.

Ryan Seacrest points out Season 8 winner Kris Allen sitting in the audience. Who? (just kidding). Video clips of the Idols in the mansion, moving out of the mansion temporarily due to rain water leaking into the mansion, Idols choosing their songs etc. (The time fillers for each results show is ridiculous). Clip of Casey James breaking down crying last week after being saved, and a new hectic week begins…blah blah blah.

Casey Abrams is safe, after Ryan said if Casey knew how many votes he got he’d be very happy. James Durbin is safe! One of the other two guys is in the Bottom 3 and the other is safe. Stefano Langone is safe! Paul McDonald is in the bottom three.
