“THIS IS AMERICAN IDOL!!!” Just under 100 MILLION Votes came in, record setting number of 624 Million votes this season! Ryan introduces the Idol judges Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell.

Kris Allen and Adam Lambert walk down the stairs onto the stage. Audience going wild. Both are “nervous and excited”. Clips of LIVE broadcasts in San Diego (hosted by Carly Smithson) and Arkansas (hosted by Michaela Gordon) of fans waiting to hear who wins the American Idol crown tonight.

The Top 13 are singing “So What” by Pink. All the contestants are wearing white outfits, looking good. Group performances usually suck, and this is one isn’t much different. Pitchy in places, and finally over. Whew. VIDEO

David Cook is singing “Permanent“, the tribute song to his brother Adam who died recently from brain cancer. 100% of proceeds go to David’s charity “ABC Square”. David Cook’s single will go on sale immediately following the show tonight, so be sure to download it on iTunes! David Cook’s performance is spectacular, a blockbuster if there ever was one! The emotional performance, with David having tears in his eyes, was phenomenal. “It’s a tough song” says David to Ryan. VIDEO

Ryan is handing out the “Golden award” trophy for the worst Idol contestant wannabe from Season 8. Ugh…, the sound of these voices is painful. The winner is…. Nick Mitchell who attempted to sing “And I Am Telling You” during auditions. Oh No, Nick is now singing I’m Not Going AGAIN!!! Please No!!! Whew, that’s finally over.

Lil Rounds and Queen Latifah DUET Performance – “Cue The Rain” – Latifah doesn’t appear to really be singing and Lil Rounds is all over the place.

Alexis Grace, Anoop Desai and Jason Mraz singing “I’m Yours”. Alexis started off very off-key, but all in all, not too bad. VIDEO

Video clip of “Journey of Kris Allen” on American Idol Season 8.

Kris Allen and Keith Urban duet “Kiss A Girl” performance. Kris and Keith are playing guitar, uptempo, sounding really good. VIDEO

The Top 13 Idol girls start singing “Glamorous” by Fergie, then bring Fergie out to sing “Big Girls Don’t Cry”. Megan Joy and Jasmine Murray sucked big time!

The Black Eyed Peas are singing “Boom Boom Pow” with lots of censoring. Idol cuts out momentarily to show just the show logo and cuts off the sound during the ahem… questionable lyrics. VIDEO

More freak awards. It’s Katrina the “Bikini Girl”. She’s singing too, or at least trying to, wearing a bikini of course. Kara DioGuardi helps her on stage with the singing, and opens her black dress to reveal a black bikini!!! OMG!

Allison Iraheta and Cyndi Lauper duet performance “Time After Time”. Cyndi’s playing the autoharp. Not bad at all. VIDEO

Danny Gokey sings “Hello” and then the duet medley performance with Lionel Richie of some of Lionel’s hits. Very good performance. VIDEO

The “Journey of Adam Lambert” on American Idol clips.

Adam Lambert sings “Beth” then the duet performance rocking with KISS singing “Rock-n-Roll All Night”. The Nokia Theatre Idol House is Rockin Tonight! Adam’s wearing a weird outfit with wings, and KISS (and Adam) are wearing those hideously high heeled platform shoes KISS is known for. Too funny. Awesome duet performance! VIDEO

Carlos Santana, playing guitar to “Black Magic Woman” and “Smooth” with the Top 13 Idol performers. Santana is simply spectacular! VIDEO

Final Ford Video “I Will Remember You” with Adam Lambert and Kris Allen. David Cook surprises Kris Allen and Adam Lambert with keys to a brand new Ford Fusion. VIDEO

Steve Martin playing banjo as Michael Sarver and Megan Joy destroy their duet song performance “Pretty Flowers” written by Steve Martin. Michael and Megan both sounded out of breath throughout the entire song, pitchy all over the place. Just BAD. VIDEO

The Top Idol guys sing Rod Stewart’s “If You Think I’m Sexy”. Rod Stewart takes the stage to sing “Maggie“. Rod is an icon, but he doesn’t sound good tonight, verrrry verrrry pitchy. How old is Rod Stewart anyway? I love ya Rod, but yikes……not a good performance. VIDEO

Oh Lord, one more Golden Award for the Idol wannabe’s. Ouch. Tatiana Del Toro wins and runs onto the stage to get her award, and starts singing while Ryan says “we have to take a break” and runs around the stage to avoid “security”. Planned….

Adam Lambert and Kris Allen are singing “We Are The Champions” with Queen! Surprise Guest Performance is QUEEN!!! Yes! Yes! Yes! AWESOME PERFORMANCE!!! Definitely worth downloading on iTunes after the show! AWESOME!!! Great harmony! VIDEO

  2. Jared says:

Congratulations Kris Allen! He deserved it.

  3. Deb says:

AMERICA GOT IT WRONG! ALL THOSE LITTLE TEENIE BOBBERS SHOULD HAVE THEIR PHONES CONFISCATED! ADAM IS SOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH BETTER THAN KRIS! WHAT A LET DOWN! ADAMS CAREER WILL SOAR WHILE BY THIS TIME NEXT YEAR PEOPLE WILL BE SAYING KRIS WHO? ADAM YOU ROCK!

ADAMS WILL SOAR TO A RECORD BREAKING CAREER BY THIS TIME NEXT YEAR!! CONGRADULATIONS TO KRIS BUT ADAM YOU ROCK! AND YOU WILL HAVE A DEAL BEFORE THE NIGHT IS OVER IM SURE……YOUR GREAT DUDE GREAT

      • ENOUGH. says:

sheesh. calm down. how old are you exactly? because you sound like your two. be a mature adult and accept what happened. kris deserved it. period. thats my opinion but please stop hating on the poor guy.

    • ENOUGH. says:

these comments are the exact ones im so frustrated by. calm down. accept what happened. because i think kris was and will be fabulous just as adam was and will be. act your age and stop being so immature and rude.

  4. Anne says:

Kris definitely deserved it. I don’t really think it’s an upset. We love you Kris! :-)

  5. Xxx says:

If so unfair Adam is so much better than Kris he is a better artist singer everything kris sang so bad yesterday he’s not gonna be half the artist than Adam already is!!!!!

  6. Anna says:

So wow, I was shocked when I read this, I think that Adam is the better artist. Kris has something that those teeny boppers like, sex appeal (hes married get over it) Adam is going to soar in the theater career and be a great Rock performer, while Kris will probably be singing in church (nothing against that) in a year or two. America got it wrong…..Sad

  7. Lala says:

OMG WHAT THE F***!!!!!!!!!! WOW I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS SHIT. I’M NOT GOING TO EVEN WASTE MY TIME WATCHING THAT SHIT LIKE OMG :( NOOOOOOO

  8. Pat says:

… and who’s the one using all caps?
Seriously, I was rooting for Kris. Sure, Adam can sing, but he wasn’t a performer. He wasn’t an Idol. If it were just a singing competition, sure, I’m fine with that. But I couldn’t ever tell if he were really into the song. He would just kinda stand there and look like he cared (very theatrical, but not passionate). Every note of every song of Kris had passion. Sure, he usually started off pitchy, but he’s going to record an album where he can start off nervous and all that and come out with a great product. Considering he took songs like ‘Heartless’ and converted them into something completely different, he is an artist. All Adam ever did was add ‘ooh ooh’s and ‘ah ah’s.
Also, Adam fit himself into that weird rock/punk stereotype, whereas Kris played songs from all over the place, which is why we like those guys he tends to be associated with. I don’t see how that could possibly be a bad thing.
So I guess I’m trying to say that passion overrides talent, because in the end I’d rather have someone who has to work for what they want to achieve rather than someone who’s just getting it given to them.
    Peace.

  9. Stuart says:

An incredible show tonight. I’m as shocked as Kris was! It’s just the beginning for them both. I’m very happy for Kris, he has great talent but as a musician, I was truly expecting Adam to win.

  10. Debbie says:

Horribly sad! There was no comparison and Adam should have won.

  11. Lala says:

Adam can sing but not a performer? Wow dude are you kidding me???

  12. Jared says:

    Simon looked shocked and disappointed..

  13. Lawrence Larson says:

yea baby!!!!! congrats go to Conway, Arkansas own Kris Allen the new American Idol kick Awesome!!!! I am so stinkin excited way to go Kris!!!!

  14. allyson_grey says:

a bit surprise… i’m rooting for adam!! aaargh!!

  15. Anne says:

You just really can’t compare the two. They are extremely different. Adam is good in singing more theater-ish way, like on-stage and stuff. Kris is good at that too. But you’d appreciate his voice even more when he sings in studio. Both are great. I don’t really care about the title anymore. I am just looking forward to their albums. Well, actually, Kris’ album. Hehehe. :-)

    • Pat says:

Actually, yeah, I’m looking forward to both of their albums, too, now that I think of it. I’m wondering what they can do on their own (which I think should really determine whether someone should become the next singing sensation, but whatever. :P )
Adam has such a huge voice and Kris is really expressive, I think they’ll both turn out great.

  16. Judas says:

The last time a group picked between two people so wrongly was when the crowd picked Barabas over Jesus.
Kris Allen is boring, predictable and 12 years old (like his fans)
    Adam Lambert can SING.

Goodbye American Idol – the show is a testament to mediocrity with rules that further the decay of talent and creativity. Simon Fuller is a dolt.

  17. ENOUGH. says:

kris deserved to win. im too tired to argue. but u glambots have to accept that he did win and get over yourselves. adam is an amazing singer and perfromer. but kris is more contemporary and is a more original recording artist. adam will get a recording deal very fast i assume but i think he is better live than studio except in the case of mad world which i loved both ways especially studio. i think kris is amazing live when he does those subtle original songs and his studio versuons are amazing. i would totally buy his album. im just freaking tired of you obcessed adam fans hating on poor kris and saying oh adam will do better. HOW THE HELL DO YOU KNOW. nothing has happened yet. the future will tell. and the future tells me that both will be successful. so stop being so f*cking bitter you shitheads. sorry. :(

  18. nikita says:

SHOCKED! THAT’S HOW I FEEL. ADAM LAMBERT WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED AS THE REAL AMERICAN IDOL 2009, NOT KRIS (HE SHOULDN’T EVEN BE IN THE TOP 2, MY OPINION)

  19. Tamika says:

I’m so pist! Adam should have won!! I stayed up til 1 trying to vote for him and couldn’t get through til like 11:45. This is BS!! Grrrr. Oh well adam will get a recording contract. And ima marry him one day. Haha jk I wish. Lol.

  20. Sharon says:

I believe Adam deserved to win lastnight. I think it was a conspiracy. Adam gave it his all right from the beginning. He had me with his Tears for Fears song. If people who voted for Kris because his physical appearance came off better then that is discrimination and that is WRONG! Never judge a book by its cover! Adam gave it his all and he had everyone from Hello!
But like I heard this morning, with him not winning, he may have a better shot at a record deal. You Go, Adam!

  21. TM says:

The way last night’s show was so different, I honestly thought there was a chance that the shocker at the end would be “joint winners”.

As it is, that’s almost how they were treated.

And at this point of the show, really anybody who got into the top 10 has a pretty good shot at having a career in singing/acting.

It really doesn’t matter who wins.

I like Adam, I agree he’s got a great voice, and is a very entertaining performer. The pairing with KISS last night was a perfect choice.

But really, if you stop huffing and puffing for a second, you have to admit that Kris’ singing style appeals to a broader audience. I think he has a better shot at longevity.

In any case, this result (and the ensuing arguments) will go a long way towards keeping people interested in the show until the auditions start up again in the fall.

  22. Marc says:

Well I’m not going to get involved in this ongoing debate because both Kris and Adam are going to have great careers as well as some of the other finalists. Plus I wanted Allison to win, ha-ha!

So can we all agree it was a great night of music overall? Kris and Keith, Allison and Cyndi, Lil and Queen, Adam and KISS, Danny and Lionel, etc. It was so great, I almost forgot about the competition and who the winner was going to be.

  23. Nikita says:

Yeah, yeah, it was a great night… they’ll both have amazing careers…bla bla blah… this is a talent show, right, but its also a competition, so results matter and they should (at least in what concerns to the winner) be fair. Last nigh they war NOT!!! Kris is not ‘winner’ material, Adam is; Kris shouldnt even be in the top 2 (Danny should in my opinion, Adam should have won; Kris doesn’t hv the ‘X-factor’, Adam personifies it! But lets wait and see what future holds… nothing like time to put things in their right place!

  24. aimala says:

First of all, thank you so much for blogging A.I this season. I don’t have a TV and it’s been the only way I’ve been able to watch this year. Big THANK YOU.

I think the final fourt were stellar and any one of them could have been the Idol this year. The talent this year was phenomenal and collectively the best ever. Adam clearly had the stronger voice. But Kris has a different approach to performaning that is equally creative. Two different types of singers. Adam is all out and Kris is more subdued and laid back. What it came down to is not who was the best singer, but who appealed to the most people. In Kris’s case I have to believe that he got the vast majority of Danny Gokey’s fans’ votes.

But ultimately I am thrilled for Kris and would buy his album in a second. I love his voice and chill style. Adam will probably be better off without Idol because he can release his album sooner and do what he wants. Take a cue from Chris Daughtrey, you don’t need to win Idol to be a star, and Adam is already a star.

    • jesse says:

i agree, i thought adam was going to win, but i agree with america….they made the right choice. who knows what lies ahead, but i wish them all the best of luck in their future!
