Carrie Underwood Dress- Carrie Underwood ACM Country Music Awards Entertainer of the Year

During last night’s 44th ACM Country Music Awards, past American Idol Carrie Underwood won the Entertainer of the Year Award from the Academy of Country Music. Carrie Underwood became the first woman to win the prestigious ACM Entertainer of the Year Award since the Dixie Chicks won in 2000, and the ACM award has only been won 6 times by a woman prior to Underwood’s win.
The ACM Awards ceremony took place April 5, 2009 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, with country music star and legend Reba McEntire serving as host. Carrie Underwood’s burgundy wine colored dress, the Lava Dress, has people talking, which was obviously done on purpose to ignite interest and gossip about what Carrie Underwood was wearing. Reba McEntire even joked that she had had planned on wearing that same dress.
Underwood’s dress was kept a secret from the public, with no video, photos or discussions about the dress allowed before the LIVE performance. “The dress that I’ll be wearing during my performance is … It’s big,” Carrie said. “There’s a lot — a lot of dress.”
The Associated Press wrote that Underwood’s dress was treated as if it “were a matter of national security,” adding that reporters had to promise “no photos, no video and no describing the gown” in order to gain access to rehearsal performances.
Underwood’s dress is a Rafael Cennamo merlot silk taffeta gown with an extremely long and dramatic ruffled train that took up a lot of space on the stage at the MGM Grand Garden Arena as she sang “I Told You Ss”, but Carrie Underwood could wear a potato sack and no makeup and still look stunning and ravishingly beautiful.
Before the LIVE ACM Awards show, Carrie Underwood hinted about her burgundy red dress by saying her lava dress is “Kind of like water, maybe? Like red water? That sounds scary, doesn’t it? Maybe like lava. It’s like lava. Or icing. Red icing.”
Upon winning the Entertainer of the Year Award, Underwood was nearly speechless about winning the award by saying, “I’ve had a lot of good moments in the last four years. This one takes the cake!” “I don’t know what to say! I got nothing.”
The Country Music Awards 2009 show was a big night for former Idol contestant, Carrie Underwood, as she also won the ACM Top Female Vocalist award. Current American Idol contestants, as well as former Idol winners, should continue to work very hard on their singing and performances, because you just never know…you may one day win the Top Female or Male Vocalist of the Year Award too.
